Everton sign up playmaker Arteta

Arteta played a friendly against Everton in August
Everton have signed highly-rated Spaniard Mikel Arteta on loan until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old playmaker is currently at Primera Liga side Real Sociedad and his short-term move to Merseyside is with a view to a permanent transfer.

Arteta started his career at Barcelona before joining Glasgow Rangers via a loan spell at Paris St Germain.

Chief executive Keith Wyness told the Everton website: "This is a real coup as a number of clubs were interested."

And he added: "David Moyes, Bill Kenwright and myself have been attempting to strengthen the squad and the signing of Mikel, who is one of the best young prospects in Spain, is hopefully testament to that."

Everton's move for Arteta comes in the wake of a failed bid for Blackburn's Barry Ferguson.

Blackburn accepted a £5m offer but midfielder Ferguson is holding out for a move back to his old club Rangers.

Arteta arrived at Sociedad at the start of the current season and has scored one goal in 15 appearances.

Tottenham make offer for Dawson


Tottenham have tabled a bid for their highly-rated defender Michael Dawson, Nottingham Forest have revealed.
Forest chief executive Mark Arthur confirmed the offer to the City Ground club's website.

Dawson, a former England Under-21 captain, is believed to be valued in the £3m-£4m bracket by Forest.


But aside from Spurs he has also attracted interest from Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion.

Manchester City are being linked with a shock move for Deportivo La Coruna striker Walter Pandiani.
Reports emanating from Turkey claim that City had lined up a swoop for Pandiani as replacement for Nicolas Anelka.
