Yep, very underated. Generally remembered just for a fairly average cover of Poison Ivy. Virtually every other song they recorded was written by Jez Bird who is still active on the local music scene. They weren't really a mod band. Their second album particularly was full of clever pop songs including things like drum loops which were virtually unheard of at the time.

Jez Bird is one of the most underrated British songwriters of all time and 'Beat Boys in the Jet Age' is one of the most underrated albums of all time - FACT! I've met him a couple of times and he's always been really friendly. It's just a shame that he plays mainly covers round the pubs as he says that's what people want. The last time I saw him the only Lambrettas song he did was Poison Ivy which of course he didn't write.

I remember the teenbeats. I even have a single of theirs

That brings back memories, the old hastings lot. Huggy Cleaver, the lead singer, jumped on stage with a band i used to play in. He had a gruff Jake Burns type voice. He actually went onto become part of the chavvy family in Eastenders and was also part of the sten gun gang in lock, stock and two smoking barrels!

In London village.
Remember them rehearsing the scout hut round the back of Lewes Priory. Seems like only...a thousand years ago.
