Would you have preferred it had our PM stated publicly he thinks the US president is unfit? Had he done that you sorts would have been all over it.

Starmer is a very wise man. Give it a few years and you may come to recognize the fact.

Still waiting for a mood lift. Apparently houses are going to be built all over the green belt, renamed as grey belt. No more new oil drilling even if we still need oil and solar panels all over our farmland affecting our ability to feed ourselves. But luckily we'll be ahead in the race towards net zero. I get headlines pop up from all the main papers every day but somehow I'm just feeling under state control today with Milliband following a personal agenda. No doubt I've read the details in the wrong media outlets. Perhaps Gareth can help me out today.

Well from what I've seen so far, it's definitely The Adults are back in the room after the last 5 years. It's an enormous task but it does seem that we have some very competent and qualified operators trying to do the right things and not a bunch of incompetent narcissists, lying, backstabbing one another, creating division and culture wars, and lining their own pockets whilst they crash the British economy and infrastructure.

So, although I'm not a huge Starmer fan, a cautious positive

Again - back to the thread topic (@WATFORD zero ) - Whilst before the Election, Starmer ruled out rejoining the EU and that has not changed, his recent comments at the NATO summit and a meeting he had on Thursday in London with European partners (published by the Guardian this morning) , suggests that the Labour Government is seeking closer cooperation with Europe and is keen to work in ‘partnership’ with European Partners than we have hitherto seen post-Brexit.

Starmer says “There was a sense after Brexit that the UK has become too inward looking, was not as interested as it once was in its place on the global stage. The UK is confident, is back.”

I don't want the Tories back any more than you ( sorry, meant to post as a reply to @Harry Wilson's tackle) and I'd rather just be able to refer to the Government than the the Tories or Labour or anyone else. Again, like you, I just want a confident, sure footed Government who makes well reasoned, well funded decisions that I can relate to and be pleased about. It will obviously surprise you to learn that the last time I experienced genuine optimism for a new Government was when Tony Blair was elected. That's what prompted me to start this thread. I didn't get the optimism for Starmer so I'm waiting for a mood lift as the new Government continues on it's way.

Starmer is no Blair. Which, on the whole is, I suspect, a good thing.

Try reading what you are attaching as a quote. That 51% is not long term unemployed..its at that level short term as the gap between that and the 88% employment of economic migrants closes (not fully) over time. That because asylum seekers suffer from a higher level of injuries etc

State Opening of Parliament Wednesday 17th July 9.30am
KING’S SPEECH, House of Lords - Wednesday 17th July 11.30 am

The King’s Speech, delivered by HRH King Charles III on Wednesday setting out the Government’s Legislative agenda for the year, will be the first test of the new Government with around 35 Government Bills expected to be included. Measures to encourage economic growth are expected to be at the heart of Labour’s reforms in a wide number of areas including:

• A “new deal for working people” in an employment rights bill.
• The Government is expected to introduce a comprehensive climate change package with large investment in solar and wind energy as well as not approving further licences for coal and North Sea gas. The Government is also expecting to announce the establishment of Great British Energy, a publicly owned company that will spearhead the energy sector into lower fuel prices, clean energy and lower bill prices for domestic consumers.
• Housing programme (already announce)
• NHS - measures to deal with Dentistry crisis, Mental Health provision and waiting lists
• Consultation into social service provision with aim of creating new National Care Service to reform social care
• Reform of the House of Lords (The House of Lords will need to approve this!)

After passing through the House of Lords (see schedule in 2nd link below), the King’s Speech will be then be debated in the HoC before being voted on (with Labour’s majority in the House, that will be a formality)

The whole State Opening of Parliament will be broadcast live on Parliament TV and YouTube.
