Gilliver's Travels
Peripatetic
In honour of His Frenchness’s continuing presence among us, it’s surely time to roll out the finished version of the Knockaert Marseillaise.
One thing that is especially good about the French anthem is that (unlike poor old Sussex by the Sea) the tune is really easy to sing. Especially the last five lines! Give it a go!
Down at Brighton & Hove Allll-bion
We’ve got a winger, who’s total class
He can thrill with the skill of Vicente
Leave defenders behind on their arse
He's a footballing French master-class
We all loved Bobby Zamora - And
We knew Peter Ward always scored
We lost the man from Argentiii -na
But now we've got a French Magiiii-cian
An-thony, An-thony!
An-thony, An-thony!
Knockaert, Knockaert,
Tears teams apart
And gets the victory!
All being well, the plan is to make a crowd recording in the near future and put it up on YouTube.
Anyone unfamiliar with the tune (aka most of us) can sing along to the version below. It's decently upbeat and bouncy – exactly as it needs to be belted out by a football crowd. The singing begins 27 seconds in, and ends at 1 minute 52.
