[Albion] The Keeper Dilemma

So we now find ourselves in the position where Jason Steele, who only ever played in Cup games, will probably have to sit out an FA Cup quarter-final at the weekend, in favour of a Spanish international who went to the World Cup.

Will RDZ really swap them around on Sunday?

If I were Sanchez, I'd be pissed off. It'd be like being back at Rochdale again. Sort of.
Or Forest Green. Made his pro debut against us at Blundell Park. Could tell then he was gonna be alright.

My take is that RDZ will want to continue to have a cup keeper, so Sanchez.

Though is there a possibility that Sanchez throws his toys on this and says, either I’m your keeper or I’m not?

95% chance Sanchez plays.

Where it gets interesting, is if we have a semi final against, say, Man U. RDZ has come out and said Steele matches his style more. From last night you can see why. The buttock clenching 5 yarders into Caicedo, the glorious chips out to Estupinan. What do we do then?

Yeah, it's a little too much seat of your pants for my liking occasionally.

Steele deserves his run of games,as far as I'm aware he's performed very well and certainly looks better commanding the box with high balls played into the area, teams were actually starting to target Sanchez with lofted crosses into the area and he was found out on more than one horrifying occasion, absolutely no need to rotate Steele out of goal at this point. Especially in a game of such importance as the Grimsby game

This. Steele's done nothing to deserve losing the shirt
Typically you rotate because your no.1 keeper is playing 38 league games and you want your no.2 to get some matches in case they're needed.

In this case, Steele has only started 3 PL games and there are only 13 left, so there isn't the need for the whole cup rotation thing.

Steele got us this far in the FA Cup, I'd be really surprised if he wasn't playing Sunday.

Should play Sanchez for sure. There’s not much between the 2 of them - both have different qualities.

I remember an NSCer with a football manager imagination saying they expect Steeles new contract had a clause he had to play all cup games 🤦🏻‍♂️

Steele has the shirt and has done nothing to deserve to lose it.

It's Grimsby so I'm not expecting it will make much difference who is between the sticks. When it comes to a cup semi and chasing a place in Europe, you play your best (or "in form") keeper every time. That's what RDZ gets paid the big bucks for.

Good l hope that he is p***** off, there is only one way to regain nis place in the team, and that is to work harder on the training ground and impress the manager.

Every player no matter how good, needs a warning shot across the bows from time to time. He'll be back soon enough l'm sure.
