From what I've seen of him, he looks good quality too. Not better than Bruno now, but might be in a year's time.

He would. But surely this is a January Transfer Window thread and, as a consequence, we're discussing this window and not the summer's one.
This does illustrate what I think is the key issue, however, which is:
-- if we get a striker in this window (which we should), will it be with this season solely in mind, which would entail a loan. If a young, promising PL striker from a top four/six club, this might also enable the option of keeping him for a season if we make it to the PL (Solanke at Chelsea, for example).
-- do we get a striker with our future in mind, whether long-term? i.e. buying someone young who might cut it in the PL, but is likely to be good in the Championship if we don't seal promotion this season
-- do we buy a striker to help gain promotion, but then let them rot on the bench if we do make it to the PL, see Middlesborough and Jordan Rhodes
-- we go for an unexpected signing from Europe (see Ulloa and Hemed, but also see David Rodriguez and Colunga)
-- some other option

As much as I'm a fan of Solly, I can't quite see it. He seems to be more of a winger/wide forward, and I do like the look of him as a more orthodox winger on the left, especially when dovetailed with Knockaert on the right.

Doubt it will be a player in this mould, we already have Sam. Likely to be a creative player in my opinion.

That would be two players then.
We have to find cover for Baldock. If he gets an injury we only have Hemed or, at a push, Murphy and that's a very different dynamic.
A truly creative central midfielder would be a real bonus although they are rare. I really do think we make a mistake sometimes by "playing our way" and not matching sides up in midfield. The last two games away from home have been classic cases in point. We may have found a way to win but we have made it hard by starting with 2v3 in the centre and being swamped.
Well it's not Kaz's car as he still drives an x5 doesn't he?

Standard are reporting that we are in for Loftus Cheek on loan. Think he would be perfect for the no.10 role and would add pace and power.
