I've just bought a ticket for the first gig of The Jam's one-off tour of the UK: May 2nd, at the Zodiac Club, in Oxford. Though I was - still am - a Jam fanatic, I thought twice about buying a ticket for the gig as Paul Weller will not be performing; and The Jam without The Modfather is like Southampton without Mick Channon.
I nearly got a ticket for The Jam's last gig: at the Brighton Centre, in December 1982. My sister's boyfriend managed to get a ticket. I was so jealous.
Does the tour include a date in the Brighton area? I can't get details anywhere.

I can understand seeing a band if say the drummer has left - but not the Lead - even more when its The Modfather.

Went to see him play 3 nights in New York last month. He played quite a lot of Jam stuff on the first night. Style Council on the second and finished up playing what he fancied on the third. Tiny venue only held about a 1,000. Fantastic. Wish he would do it here.

It's a bit like my milkman and dustman taking my kids to school and claiming to be their parents.

Don't get me wrong, they're both important figures in my life and I appreciate what they do. But I see them as playing a supporting role, much like Brucie and Rick.

In London village.
Mr Weller will be playing a "major summer festival" and touring prior to that...you heard it here first.

Really?? I heard he was having a year out. Though I did read somewhere he'll be playing the Wireless festival in London.

As for this new Jam tour I won't be going. It just isn't The Jam without Weller.

And no matter how much I love the band they were right to split when they did in 1982. How can a band that championed YOUTH get back together and make new material 25 years later. Crazy.
