Worthing
with perhaps Weller's emphasis on DoC

That would seem plausible, seeing as Weller was starting to write the music ( not necessarily lyrics ) with less punch and anger, towards his evolvement to the Style Council.

Funny this should come up, as I recently read about this record in the book, '1000 UK Number 1 Singles', and it says 'Going Underground' was inspired by Weller's concerns over Russia's invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979 and the title 'The Dreams of Children' is inspired by Clive Barker's novel 'The Forbidden' in which The Candyman commits murders, so he can haunt 'the dreams of children...' The track's psychedelic feel is said to be due to Weller, at the time, listening a lot to The Beatle's 'Revolver'...

I used to be a bit ambivalent towards Dreams of Children but now I think it's pretty good. Have you heard the live version on Dig the New Breed? That swung it for me. Not sure I could pick a favourite Jam track but Burning Sky would consistently be in the top 5. Genius.

Little boy soldiers for me, off the same album.

The record was pressed in France 6 weeks previous to release date and Polydor only realised there mistake afterwards. Paul Weller was not best pleased but after a lot of persuading by the A+R men and the Jams then manager John Weller (PWs dad) managed to placate him on the understanding the record was labelled as a double Aside.
