I think the Police have been caught between a rock and a hard place. They were given powers following the lockdown and when they attempted to exercise them they have been criticized. eg. The Derbyshire Police got it in the neck for using a drone and filming people on the Peak District. I have no problem with them doing that and if people have travelled there and are then walking for a couple of hours (most people that travel to the national parks aren't just walking for the hour as per the lockdown) then fine them.

As for those celebrities or government officials that have travelled to second homes then the Police should be fining them (and if it is known they went more than once then double it).

Where is the law that says you mustn't drive to somewhere to walk from, that says you can't exercise for more than an hour and that you mustn't go out for this purpose more than once a day? I'm not sure there is one, at least in England. We need to stop this decease as quickly as we can but the concept of punishing people when they haven't broken any law can't be right in a free democracy..

I keep reading your post and I keep seeing 'money grabbers' being used for people that have no or less income coming in, as is their right and being encouraged to do so by the government who are processing the claims as quickly as they are able to in difficult circumstances.
Why are you saying read it again?
Yes it is outrageous.

He'll slope off rather than reply sensibly to you. He always does that when he's said something insensitive and unpleasant. That's what he does.

In statute, the Coronavirus Act 2020. Only 4 reason for travel are allowed in law.

If anything our police are enforcing them gently. In Italy and Spain, it’s with an iron fist.

Still in Brighton
My neighbour has taken great pains to tell me she's high risk, she refuses to use the main communal door for the flats and goes in and out through her garden gate only. She seems to get online food deliveries weekly. All fair enough.

But last weekend and now this weekend her boyfriend has driven down from London to stay a few days.

I'm rather annoyed. Can't think of a logical excuse for it. Mulling over havin' a word.

You need to keep abreast of current affairs (and laws).

It has crossed my mind more than once to go down to my favourite fishing spot.
It takes about 30 minutes to drive there and a 10 minute down the path to a very secluded cove and fish off the rocks.
I rarely see anyone else in normal circumstances let alone during this time.
Surely by doing that I am not going to harm anyone else, but I don't go because it is far from essential and I can't moan about others and then go out for the day.
Bloody shame though I always catch loads of fish, mostly Wrasse but also Mackerel and Bass.
I think we just have to try and do what you know is sensible, right or wrong.

  • There is no actual law to say that you mustn't drive to somewhere to walk from (indeed Matt Hancock on QT the other week said that you could drive a short distance for this purpose).
  • There is no actual law to say that you cannot exercise for more than an hour.
  • There is no actual law to say that you cannot go out for exercise more than once a day.

But that's not the point is it - we have been told to abide by these guidelines, whether or not they are specified in the legislation. And for good reason.

But there is a law that any journey must be for one of the 4 prescribed purposes.

We looked into a walk round the creek here today, which is a 1 minute walk from my house, but there were lots of people about. The creek is very nice. Seems OK for people to walk across town and enjoy the open space. I don't mind but I'd prefer a bit more emptiness for myself (age nearly 62).

So I broke my own code and drove to somewhere with one parking space and a walk through some woods to a grassy plateau. We met only one person, a young woman wearing plastic gloves, who seemed very annoyed to see us.

I don't feel bad about this, but I'm reluctant to do it again.

Earlier I was queueing the statutory 6 feet to pay for food in Macknade. A shopper walked right up along side me to browse the goods that are a reach away when you queue. I commented about her social distancing and suggested she could grab all that stuff she wanted while she queued. "You are joking, right?" was the reply. I was tempted to answer "Look, love, it's me that's running a slight temperature and has a bit of a cough" but decided to swear under my breath instead.

I can be as careful as I can to protect others, but when fat white middle class entitled goons think it's fine to step into my inhale/exhale zone, I wonder why I bother.

“You are joking, right”. I know it’s tamer, but it’s in the same bracket as What are you gonna do it pal, come closer and say that.

Since time began, the Brits are a belligerent lot, hating being told what to do, even when patently in the wrong.

At Sainsbury’s Hove on Wednesday a young woman was told not enter the exit by security, instead of just joining the queue at the obvious entrance, she started a mouthy row.

I mentioned she was white, female and middle class to paint the picture, not to make any racial, gender or class point. Albeit, her demographic is, according to the Daily Mail, the thing to which young women of England should aspire.

For balance, the other lump who plonked herself next to me at the meat counter was French. She did back off with an apology when I poked her with my trolley, though :lolol: I guess when you're used to eating frogs, horses and slugs, a bit of virus is nothing more than hors d'oeuvre.

We're not quite in the Lake District (although I can walk to the boundary in half-an-hour), but Easter Week / Weekend here is usually extremely busy. Today was the quietest I have known it in 17 years. I'm not talking about Easter here - I mean quieter than any other day I have lived here, even quiet winter Sundays. Virtually a ghost-town. The birdsong in the woods on my daily exercise was astonishingly loud.

The five holiday/second homes on my Avenue (14 houses) are all unoccupied.

You need to keep abreast of current affairs (and laws).

If you feel I should, please show me the laws covering the specific activities I mentioned. You can only punish people for breaking laws that actually exist

Meanwhile, I shall do my best to follow the spirit of the government's guidance, as we all should.

French police turn back private jet of holidaymakers from UK

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...urn-back-private-jet-of-holidaymakers-from-uk

Chartered a flight to Marseille from the UK, then when challenged tried to get their "contacts" to get them out to the villa they've rented. After four hours on the tarmac they pissed off back to the UK. Twats.

'Seven men, aged 40-50, and three women, aged 23-25' - at least five nationalities amongst them. Interesting group.

Ahead of impending redundancy (perhaps....now been delayed) I started sorting out my neglected gear today (loads of it, but will look like a latter-day Mr Crabtree if I am spotted on the bank with any of it I suspect). However, fishing isn’t on the allowed list at the moment (the Angling Trust are lobbying for it to be included as ‘exercise’) so it’s a no-no sadly.

Can you explain why it is essential to drive somewhere to go for a walk or cycle, which is the exercise your allowed to do. It's not essential. People can act like complete ***** by ignoring the 'guidelines' and spreading the virus and no doubt they will then be moaning about the fines. I guess you exptect every contingency accounted for however most realize that driving somewhere to go for a walk falls under the category of not essential.
