I'm not sure I got it - just what were all the pikey references to Luton. Does Luton have a Gillingham-ish side to it that I'm not aware of?

We were quite frankly complete Toss.
However, otherwise a cracking evening of entertainment, in which i witnessed Kaney and Scotty M attacked by a fellow Brighton "fan", simply for stating the obvious (that Hammond was a tit for giving the ball away before the third game).

There were 2 or 3 good things about the evening on the playing side. But, agreed, most of it does fall into the "character-building" category
Just back myself - here are my views, for what they're worth.....
The only good thing about this evening was the fact that Crewe, Millwall and Sheff Weds only got two points between them - plus, I suppose, Leicester losing, Coventry getting only a point, Derby losing, and Plymouth not playing at a time when they're obviously on form.
The starting line-up was slightly bizarre, with both Turienzo and McCammon up front. Hart was playing right midfield, although for most of the first half he played on the left with Carole playing on the right. Mayo was left back, and El Abd RB. Also slightly bizzare was the appearance of Chaigneau on the bench, after he had reportedly stormed off on Boxing Day after not even being reserve keeper for the QPR game.
Anyway, the first 20 mins or so was similar to the Reading game - nothing much between the two teams, until a bit of a sucker punch goal, with the ball finding it's way across the area when it should have been cleared, and Howard getting a touch a few yards out. Coming up to half time there still wasn't a helluva lot between the teams - both sets of players making mistakes, but not too much to worry either keeper. McGhee then decided he needed to change something, and Turienzo (after being caught offside about half a dozen times) made way for CKR. The Argentine got a very sympathetic round of applause from the 1,200 or so Albion fans behind the goal as he made his way back to the dressing room*, but he'd hardly made his way down the tunnel when some shocking defending saw us go two down. We had plenty of chances to clear the ball, but when the final shot came in two players on the line couldn't keep the ball out. [*The fact that he went straight to the dressing room presumably indicates he was injured??]
After half time we posed even less of a threat, with McCammon particularly ineffective. Soon McGhee made a double substitution, with Knight & Frutos coming on for Trolley and Kerry. This should have made a difference, as McCammon and Mayo were clearly our worse players, but in fact very little changed. Luton continued to play by far the better football, consistently causing panic in the defence with fast direct running. After about an hour the killer came, with a clever chip from the edge of the area which Kuipers just couldn't get to. Thereafter the game petered out, with pretty much everyone knowing there wasn't a hope of us getting back in the game.
I'd love to know the reasons behind McGhee's team selection - a few folks round me thought that McGhee knew we'd struggle to get anything from the game and decided to experiment. I just hope some lessons have been learned before Saturday - chief among them must be the need to actually look interested in winning. Luton were always at us, constantly harrying us, and frequently forcing the player on the ball into a mistake. Our defenders and midfielders had no time on the ball, whereas we seemed to be scared to make a challenge. One moment typified our approach, when El Abd mistimed a hoof out of defence, the ball ballooned into our area where McShane and Butters watched the ball bounce before suddenly reacting a desperately clearing. McShane, by the way, had his least impressive game (at least, of those that I've seen).
All in all, not a happy night.....got to turn it round for Saturday.

Even if that were not so, and it was for the foul - how dare the 'keeper come and take the ball, eh? Entirely his fault, and not CKR's at all for being frustrated enough to challenge for a ball he could never win.

The applause for El Turi was my highlight of the evening, it showed the best and most positive side of the Albion fans' nature - and I think that's great on an evening like this
