Ha ha, sadly I am not old enough for the Bonneville, I was a spotty oik in my teens in the early 80s, trying my best to look mean with a biker jacket, or the obligatory denim jacket, adorned with band badges and hand painted band logos. My old man made me cut up the "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" patch and threw the "Bloody" bit away! I had "sabbath on my jacket twice! No buses for me, I used to thumb a lift home afterwards! (Couldn't afford the bus).

I found my jacket just recently when I moved house, after several modifications and a major Gong overhaul painted in 1982. Ooh a Crass logo to, and I can't for the life of me remember who Frantic City were, it is posted here: Phils rather old demin jacket from the 80s

I remember one evening a guy spewed up all over the floor - this prompted this biker wannabe to mop up the vomit with his jacket and put it back on! Ewww!

I fondly remeber being thrown out of the years about 1991 for smoking a joint. Thing is i was only passing it between two mates, but Pepa spotted me so I was out the door. next weekend I was back as normal.

"My musical memory has to be "Reeling in the Years" by Steely Dan. I can also remember the pies we sold which enabled the place to have a late licence to which the cook would sometimes add extra "ingredients" which made a few people happy!"

I loved that song, and those pies

Great link with some familiar names (some of whom i still know !) I was kicked out by Peppa for smoking something i shouldn't just before my 18th birthday after being a regular for a couple of years.

I tried to get a drink in the bar downstairs about 5 years later and she told me i was still banned. I had obviously made an impression :angel:

I also remember playing for the first Hungry Years football team in about 76-77 - Paralytics Athletic

Bloody hell, what nostalgia this thread is; I used to go down 'the Years' 1978-82. Stuart would often start the Saturday night proper with Kansas's 'Carry On Our Wayward Son' or Blue Oyster Cult's 'Don't Fear The Reaper'.

As a concession to punk (s), they's be a 15 minute slot at about 11.15 pm when he'd play a bit of Clash/Pistols/Stranglers/Skids/Ruts ('Babylon's Burning'), etc, before returning to the heavy metal classics.

Vaguely knew a peroxide blonde down there who used to dance/head-bang in basque, stockings and suspenders, and little else (think her fella was also one of the DJs - Tim?). So many blokes playing air-guitar with a hard-on, and she knew it !!!

And one of the regulars was such a massive Status Quo fan that he changed his name by deed poll to Francis Michael Rossi - sad sod!

Used to see some of the 'bikers' at the station afterwards, carrying their crash helmets on to the train home. LOL. Poseuers....

Never worked out why a middle-aged Greek couple would run a heavy metal 'disco' !

Mind you, I always maintained that you got less aggro and fights in a whole year than you got on any single Saturday night at 'Sherries' or 'Jenkinsons' or any other 'smoothies/townies' disco where denim or leather wasn't allowed. I always felt safe down the Hungry Years, because regardless of how they dressed and looked, 99.9% of the regulars were really friendly.

They were good days. Fond memories.

:drink::thumbsup:

I'm talking about the 70s. I used to catch the 46 to school every day

So did I , the 46 went up and down Beaconsfield Villas , could it be the 26 went up Ditchling Road and only went down Beaconsfield Villas on its return to the Old Steine ?
