These are some very good albums from 40 years ago not on that list:

Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division
Even Serpents Shine - The Only Ones
A Different Kind of Tension - Buzzcocks
Cool for Cats - Squeeze
Uncle Jam Wants You - Funkadelic
Labour of Lust - Nick Lowe
Overkill - Motorhead
XTC - Drums and Wires
and definitely the B52's!

Some good shouts there. Unknown Pleasure IS on the original list. It's number 2.

Lots of omissions have already been named - particularly surprised at B52s left out. But the album from that year that I played the most was probably Misty in Roots' Live at the Counter Eurovision. I still love it

I really like this album. I distinctly remember my father coming home having bought this on vinyl...along with a Boney M long player. I then bought my own copy when I was a student. I was too young to fully understand the record when I first heard it so maybe this helped with my initial and subsequent enjoyment of it?

By the way, I do believe the context surrounding how you receive and process art plays a part in your acceptance of art...so your reasoning for disliking the album is perfectly understandable.
