It doesn't sound great, but we have no proof that he isn't coming back just yet. As Bozza says things will be clearer next week. Bloody frustrating though.

I actually think that it does sound great. We might not get Vicente but the message is clear and now out there-Brighton and Hove Albion will not get mugged again. We are not the soft touch that Withdean made us for all those years.

He might be tiny but don't f*** with Tony Bloom.

You know what I think you've nailed it. I'm with you on this. I still hope he bloody well signs, as do you.

Good post

He could easily just decide to sit on his arse in Spain until we cancel his contract. It wouldn't look good but I doubt it would put off someone like Villareal.

So where does this leave Bruno in all of this/ He must be pretty pissed off if one of the main reasons he signed up for two years was his good mate is here.

He said that Vicente wasn't the main reason. A reason I'm sure, yes, but if he's thought along the lines of 'well Vicente's had a great year here, that must mean something about the xlub' I wouldn't be surprised.

I like Vicente and clearly his ability adds another dimension to the team, but lets also not forget when he wasn't fit we were also 'ticking along' quite nicely.

Exactly. He couldn't halt our end of term slump but 3 or 4 new signings just may. After spending so long in Valencia, I hope he hasn't belatedly found his travelling shoes. Unless he wants a final shot at the Premiership with the likes of Southampton right away...

Not the real one
You say that and I agree. But it's a Premier League club, plentiful flights from Manchester and some nice places to live nearby. So it wouldn't be that cut and dried at all for a footballer. He wouldn't be spending much time in Wetherspoon's or Greggs so the state of the town itself doesn't matter much.

If Vicente wanted Premier league, he could have signed for alot of teams. Probably the top divisions in Italy, France, Germany, MLS etc. he didn't he chose us. So I don't believe it's about the premier, it's just about cash if Wigan or a side like Wigan beats us to him.

I'd be gutted to lose Vicente, I was looking forward to seeing him next season. But the club have done the right thing in exercising this clause.

You've got to assume this will be cleared up one way or the other next week when he (presumably) reports back. But what would be interesting is IF this somehow drags on till the start of the season without Vicente signing. Come August 14th, a couple of weeks before the transfer window closes, would he be in the squad, in the team ?

I cannot see it playing out like that, but if it did, would we want him in the team still ? Not sure I would, and I don't think Gus would stand for it.

In some ways, I'd be more worried if he shows up for the first day back. If he comes back on the second or third day ("for family reasons") it's like a 'you can't bully me around, and tell me what to do... but I accept my situation', whereas if he comes back on time it's like "I'll play the good soldier... for now".

Everyone seems to of forgotten he was injured 9 months ago ......not to injured though as he obviously could still shag

I reckon he'll be back but wants a clause in his contract about premiership wages with an option of another year if we make it.

Fair point, but he'd be in clear breach of contract and we'd sue the arse off him. More likely he'd reinvent (what Valencia believed to be) his imaginary injury

Disagree, his record in the prev 4 years was pretty atrocious. Agree entirely about the cash though, this is football after all!

Anyone on this thread mention Barber? Wouldn't surprise me if he hasn't influenced this, then again Gus would have been mightily pissed if let down at last minute. Either way I can see him leaving us for a "modest" fee to either a Wigan (chance to showcase his talent on the big stage with outside opportunity for one last pay day) or a Villareal (I want to go home)

Thank you for the information.

Bloody agents.

Greedy bastard agents at work. In a nutshell!

This has the bad smell of a greedy agent trying to play clubs off against each other to get the best deal. Hopefully by activating the extra year clause we have stuffed his agents plans where the sun don't shine.

They really are the scourge of modern football.

Interesting to me that quite a few posters have chosen to blame this "hiccup" in negotiations on Vicente's agent/advisers (without, as far as I am aware, any evidence of what has actually occurred during the negotiations). But whoever these advisers are, they are employed/retained by Vicente. If he felt they weren't representing him to his satisfaction, he has the power to intercede and, ultimately, fire them if necessary.

Surely if he had truly wanted to have wrapped up a new deal with the club by now, he could have made that happen. In short, if there's any "blame" to be attached then doesn't it have to be at the door of Vicente himself, rather than his supposed money-grabbing Big Bad agent?

I certainly hope these negotiations are resolved successfully and he signs a new, extended contract with the Albion. But if that doesn't happen, I would suggest it will be because Vicente ultimately didn't want it to happen.

What else would we post about.

Whats on your Itunes?
What did you have for dinner tonight?
What colour socks did you wear to work today?

We could all read some VEET For Men reviews......

Isn't that one of the reasons players use agents? So they can avoid the bad taste left by direct conversations like this?

As you say, it is clearly his decision.

However, on the other side of the coin, having seen the interviews and behaviour of some of our highest paid footballer players, I rather suspect there are cases where agents can pull the strings to their own advantage. Hopefully not it this case.
