The reason I'm relaxed is whilst he is brilliant etc etc , our record without him was play off form and with him relegation form. Also getting a whole injury free season out of him is a massive massive unknown. Of course nothing ever that clear cut but point is its not shit or bust. The likely 500k and wage saving would enable another quality player to join and push us on. I will love it if he happily comes but win win if he doesn't.

Despite the slightly whiny nature of my previous posts on this topic I agree with you. My issue is that this should be resolved sooner rather than later so we can adjust our plans for next season accordingly.

Whatever Vicente decides I will always appreciate what he did for us last season, I just which he'd get on with it!

...we're not even at the end of June...

Actually, he's bloody right! The Euros haven't finished, Wimbledon's just begun, we've got to get through The Olympics, all that before next season. And we're concerned that an ex-Valencia legend hasn't signed up for another year.

**Plus, let us not forget the Paul Kitson saga - only 10 years ago.

From what has happened and been said I think that Vicente would be happy to come back for another year. However, I don't think his wife wants to and seeing as he has 2 young children he has to put his family first. If he wants to sign for a Spanish club we should let him go for a reasonable price.

Club have been top here I think, we got him back in the world frame again he was a dead player before gus got him, we sorted his physical and mental issues and turned him into a sort after player, we probs spent a decent amount of money on doing that also, I think his kind of back stabbed us and the club rightly want to get some money for him, I personally don't think he will play again, not sure I want him to also, you either wanna play for us or don't if ya don't well then see ya, but expect club to get money back after they saved your ass

I am not saying your opinion is wrong but didnt quite a few of the people on here say the same about Calde over the Southampton situation ????

I think it may be as simple as the family and the weather, I remember when he signed, we had bad windy rainy weather that didn't seem to stop for weeks, we then had a grey winter and more shitting rain in march April may.... don't underestimate what that does to people used to mild southern Spanish climate..... !

This sounds like Vicente's agents are stirring this up, although I could be wrong as he has another child now. But nonetheless, it appears the agents are at work sniffing about for that lovely green stuff that they're more concerned about.

It seems an understandable dilemma - a player torn between honouring his contract over here or being at home in Spain with family and new born baby etc. Hopefully aAll this speculation will be over if Vicente just turns up for training after his paternity leave.

It will be a good test of Gus and our new man Barber's negotiating skills to sooth any issues and make sure Vicente feels the love here. I do fear the fly in the ointment might be Vicente's agent being a bit naughty. But then I don't think poker playing Tony Bloom will give in to any strongarm stuff, it will either be an acceptable outcome to both parties or its 'Adios'.

Or its wholly, and very simply, about wages.

I'm not taking all the talk about Elche too seriously. I really don't think he wants to play in front of 8,000 fans each week.

Is this not the agent doing his job trying to get the best deal for his client as regards pay and conditions? I am not sure that I believe this or it is wishful thinking, but I believe that he will see out his contract next season and then call it a day in England and return to Spain. He will then be 1 year older but still well capable of playing in the Spanish 2nd Division.

Yep, quite likely. Suspect we wanted to do the deal before he became a free agent while his "people" wanted his contract to expire before doing any deal as they'd then hold all the cards. They (rather than Vicente) are no doubt peeved that having said we would not activate the 1 year option we have done so, albeit we would have been daft not to. I am optimistic that he'll return but nothing could have been worse than another Gotsmanov to Saints type scenario.

The agent is looking out for his own best interests too in all this. The agent would make a lot more money allowing the contract to run down and the second year clause not being invoked as it would make Vicente a free agent and they could command a decent signing on fee at any club he moves to. As we've invoked the second year clause we'll be entitled to a transfer fee if he does move anywhere so they won't get a signing on bonus. If Vicente wants to move no doubt he'll stick in a transfer request which would also stop him being entitled to 10% of the fee as well. All in all the club have protected the investment they've made in getting him back to full fitness and if the agent has been in the ear of Vicente about getting more money its only cause he wants more money too so its kind of bitten him in the arse.

Sums it up nicely. We hold the cards now; hardly surprising bearing in mind who our chairman is!

That is it in a (rather big) nutshell I imagine. We'd be pretty timpot to have let the contract run down without Vicente being tied down by June 30.

Jeez is everyone still moaning. Vicente and the club are negotiating. Just to ensure we cover our backs we have taken out the extra year.

Why is everyone making Vicente out to be a nob? If he failed to show for pre-season we have some grounds to moan, but at the moment he is negotiating with the club and there is still a chance of a longer term deal.

No wonder they normally don't play these things out in the public domain or all our players would be villains in the fans eyes.

this.... of course Vicente and his agents are unhappy about us exercising the option.

Where they may have negotiated a nice juicy signing on fee and fat agents fee with Elche, that will now (at least partly) have to be replaced with a transfer/compensation fee to Brighton.

this isn't a moral argument, its likely about money

I was 90% sure he'd sign last week - Im 5% sure now.

I guess there must be a substancial gap between what he wants and what he's being offered with respect to wages. Cant see em grumbling over 1.5k -2k a week differences.

I wonder what his agents want per month? £30k? £40k - I guess Brighton would be offering say £15k rising to £25k dependant on appearances. All guess work OFC.
