Idlewild, British Sea Power, Kid British, Charlatons, iv had to create myself a plan B and C as you never know what could happen. If everyone hasnt done it yet, its well worth signing up to thier text service- text "Escape" to 82085, they send you updates about how full the venues are, and any secret gigs that might be happening. It only costs one set rate of £1.00 (EG last year they send a text in the morning saying We Are Scientists would be playing on top of the Audio!) Should be a great festival!

I have a3 day VIP pass.:p

The band that shouldn't be missed are 'HOLY f***'

True that! My best tip for this festival is use a bike to get from venue to venue, if you want to see anything at the Concorde or Old Market you end up with a twenty minute walk so miss out on loads of stuff.

Also get to see Joe Gideon and the Shark when they play Old Market Saturday.

Other stuff I want to see, Danananakroyd, Fight Like Apes, Iliketrains, Joy Formidable, SCHOOL (church?) of Seven Bells, Brakes, Sky Larkin, Chew Lips, Twilight Sad, Mumford and Sons, Vivian Girls and Future of the Left. Damn ik love this festival more fun than any of the summer mud fests and you get to sleep in your own bed.

Tonight will try to catch Trip and the Rumble strips
Friday want to see British sea power and Danananakroyd
saturday will be Skint & Demoralized and Kid British
these are my must do list for Great escape this year

Wouldn't be surprised if sea power do a bit of a weird show on Friday and their more traditional rocking gig on saturday.

I have a vague plan for this evening involving Pulled Apart By Horses, The Volt, Dananananakroyd, The Black Lips, Leisure Society, Last Republic, We Have Band and Datarock, none of whom I've seen before, I'm am definitely looking to broaden my horizons this year.

revised plan tonight is:

8.15pm Trip @ 2nd Floor of Revenge
9.00pm Danananaykroyd @ Audio
9.30pm Just Jack @ Brighton Coalition
10.15pm The Rumble Strips @ Komedia Theatre
12.00am The Maccabees @ Corn Exchange

I reckon you'll need to get to the corn exchane at about 9 if you want to see the Maccabees

I'm am definitely looking to broaden my horizons this year.

I've always taken a few risks at this fezzie and seem to get a good return on my gambles. I'll be doing the same again this year.

Also, boozing and staggering from venue to venue catching new bands.....its the way to go dontcha think?

Herr Tubthumper and my motley crew will be on manouvers from 16:00.

First up will be This Tawdry Affair or whatever they're called. I always like to giggle at 'goth/pop'.

Still in Brighton
the first year this festival was on i thought it was brilliant but now i remember why i didn't bother with it last year after a poor 2nd year:

- We got to Ponananas at 630pm for The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Waited about 10th in the queue outside for doors to open at 7pm. 7pm told to queue "the other side". 715pm, told the venue was "now full". oh well.
- went straight to the Volks, got in easy enough. Watched to non descript bands who were ok but won't be going anywhere.
- my main event, Titus Andronicus, came on at 845pm and were excellent.
- left to go to The Arc for the Ben Ottewell (from Gomez) solo show. Watched the amusing Rosie and the Goldbug finish their set. Waited 25mins for the next band to set up. Turned out not to be Ben Ottewell and when i asked, told he had cancelled (load of pointless texts all evening, where was the one for that!).
- left at 1020pm and wandered to King and Queen to catch a bit of Phantom Limb. Queue for Hockey at Hectors was massive, pointless trying there.

so, in the end i saw ONE band i wanted to see play for 30 minutes and a lot of nondescript try-hards (harsh but fair). seems the only way to do this festival is to choose one band you want to see, get there early and stay there. hardly the point and shit value for money.

That's why I've never bothered with this festival. Seems like a lot waiting about for not much music. Unles of course, you have a pass that gets you straight into venues.

I had a pretty good night. Started off at Sallis benney to see Pulled Apart by Horses who noisy fun.

I did have to queue 20 minutes to get into Audio as I did think it would be full. When I got in Mika Miko were bloody brilliant, and Danananakroyd didn't disappoint either. The Black Lips took ages to get ready so I left and went to the much quieter Leisure Society at the Basement (really nice venue), they too were great. Popped into the Latest Bar and caught Astro Firs who were ok but no great shakes and then set off to the Concorde 2 for an overrunning show but We Have band and the brilliant were well worth the wait. Pretty good first day, looking forward to Phantom band and Dark Horses today anything else is a bonus.

I can sympathise with the comments about queuing. That's why we now buy delegate passes which allow queue jumping. If you get them early enough they are only 80 for the weekend which I still think is a bargain.
