We are the Fulham of International football. If we all work hard, play well as a team, then on our day we can be a match for anyone.

Fulham don't go around tonking Liverpool or Villa 5-1 away from home.

I think Spurs is a better analogy.

In that case, it's unfortunate that the World Cup isn't played in a year that has a '1' at the end of it.

Send 'em back next year.

Is that the same Beardsley that Mark Hately kept out of the England team for so long?

Rose tinted son, rose tinted.

It's the Beardsley that was one half of one of the best ever strike forces this country has had.

Other than Rooney do we even have a striker as good as Teddy Sheringham? No we don't.

The golden generation was Beckham in his prime, a fit Michael Owen, a younger Heskey, a younger Ferdinand and, if possible, a younger Rooney. Those who trot out for England these days are not that 'Golden Generation'

The golden generation all came together for Euro 2004. We were great against France for 90 minutes and then gave them two goals in injury time (Gerrard grrr), but put it behind us to beat Switzerland 3-0 and Croatia 4-2. Rooney had scored four already, then got injured after 25 minutes in a 2-2 cracker against hosts Portugal (in which they got an 83rd minute equaliser and Campbell had a perfectly good goal ruled out in the dying seconds). We lost on penalties (Beckham missing his second spot-kick of the tournament, grrr)

James, Neville, Terry, Campbell, Cole, Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Rooney, Owen
