One of my nephews is gay and he neither hides it nor flaunts it as he says it is his choice. It doesnt affect my relation with him in any way I just think too much is made out of that choice for many.

The fact that you think its a choice shows just how little you know. When did you make the choice to be straight? I think if your understanding of your nephew is as your understanding of the issue on here appears to be, then yes it does affect your relationship with him, you just don't realise it.

I was just remarking that I am fully aware of this and do have an opinions on it. I do not really care who it is as it is his choice to be gay my interest is on how anybody performs on the pitch

Choice ?, I can assure you it’s not a choice, it how god made you. Agree about performance on the pitch though, it should not matter who or what you are.

But many football fans haven't seen it like that, to the extent that professional footballers have not felt able to be honest about themselves with the public for fear of how it will effect their careers. It will be an enormous step forward if footballers don't feel the need to hide their sexual orientation.

PS - It is not his choice to be gay, any more than it was your choice to be straight. Unless you're an oddball who actually did choose. Personally, I didn't ever make a choice, I am the way I am.

My nephew as a teenager was the one who always got off with the best looking girls but he was a hairdresser and went on cruise liners from Florida to follow his profession and then surprised us all when he came home from a trip and told us he was gay but it really meant nothing to me and my wife although it affected his mother and father. Some couple of years later his sister who had traveled the world as nanny to Boris Beckers children and had her pick of men came out with the same statement about herself. To me that is just life and both are very happy with same sex partners.

Proof that travel broadens the mind.

I think it's a very brave thing to do, especially in todays climate.

You saying it would've been easier 50 years ago..?

Anyway, I think its silly. Homosexual, tree****er, playboy, dog porn masturbator, virgin... it has zero relevance. No more interesting than someone arranging a press conference to announce that they no longer hate raisins.

All this talk about "needs to show him support"; wtf.. wealthy man doing his dream job... if he just shut up, play football and **** men in the ass he is already better off than 90% of us. He dont need no prayer circle.

Well, it would be nice if it didn't matter. But, with absolutely zero openly gay footballers playing currently, WAY below the expected ratio, it clearly does. How many dog porn masturbators do you know btw?

I've rarely read a bigger load of bollocks on any forum. Of course he needs support you bell-end. No, if he just shuts up and plays football nothing will change and people will stay repressed and psychologically unhappy, You think money solves problems like this? You know nothing.

I assume you're Swansea. Give me one good reason to tolerate you given you're a guest here and the only thing that's been up your ass is your own head.

Lack of gay footballers is never ever going to be one of the major reasons why people feel repressed and psychologically unhappy. However, the identity psychosis shit where in example your sexuality is the same as your "identity" and your whole existence is intertwined with your sexual preferences is definitely harmful. Its the same for classes in society or political viewpoints or whatever really - you put yourself in a box you simply cant thrive inside as every human is far more multifaceted than that.

If you go all in and become this "gay symbol", you and everyone else is always going to expect - almost demand - that you be some kind of Rainbow God 24/7 and you put yourself under giant pressure, just like the business man who cant go barefoot with a sweaty t-shirt or the "bad boy" getting weird looks when he rejects a beer or a joint. One of the major reasons people are feeling shit in our day and age is not the lack of representation, but the pressure to always represent.

If everyone stopped believing that they were alone in the world and kill that urge to put a spotlight in your face and saying "I am different", then different would be normal rather than different. The footballer in question would do himself and other gay people a favour if he just stopped hiding it without making some kind of buzz about it. Its how you make things considered normal.

As for "I assume you're Swansea. Give me one good reason to tolerate you given you're a guest here and the only thing that's been up your ass is your own head" its really up to you - I dont know you, I dont know how tolerant you are of opinions and thoughts you dislike, so whether you choose to tolerate me or not is really in your hands. I dont know what is a "good reason" to you.

I get what you're saying, but unfortunately being the first current playing footballer to come out as gay is always going to put the inidividual in the spotlight. It will be a big moment, and it'll take a brave man because, unfortunately, certain sections of football fandom haven't quite caught up with the rest of the western world when it comes to tolerance of homosexuality. Hopefully there'll be a time in the not too distant future where footballers will be able to be openly gay and not feel alone in the world/won't have the identity as 'the' gay footballer, etc, as you said. At the moment though that simply isn't possible

This person is going to announce on social media,, that they are gay.
It's only the people who read this, then give their views that fuel the statement, giving it more publicity.
Why can't they do this, why does it bother you, your ludicrous comments just smack of ignorance!
