No, never said that.I also think a passport is merely a document but this mere document is being politicized on this thread. In my view taking a passport merely for its economic benefit is capitalism at its finest.
My reference to the US was one to the home of national self loathing and there are sufficient numbers in the 36 % to get a similar debate going over there.

Why is taking a passport that might enable you to work in a different country capitalism at it's finest? When is your contribution to society through work considered capitalism? I honestly don't understand your view point.

You may be right here. Perhaps the way forward is to ask Farage if he is pleased that the children he helped bring into the world are taking the life-enhancing option of giving themselves freedom to live, study, work and retire right across Europe. And then ask him why he has battled so hard for a situation that will see those rights removed from everyone else's children. We can judge him on his answers.

There is a danger that such is the continuing outrage at the Brexit vote, that personal dislike of Farage (fair enough) could cloud objectivity.

It seems that under the premise being advocated, any politician can not support a policy which may be to the benefit of his family.

I only qualify for a UK passport, so to get another one I would have to choose a specific country and move there and try and get citizenship. Too old for Antipodean migration as well.

The chances of me doing the above are fairly low, so I'm very unlikely to give up my rights to a UK passport. Not that I've always had one - didn't have a passport from 2001 to 2007 and it didn't really affect my life at all (though presumably going abroad would have been a bit harder, if I had tried).

The foreign birth registration takes about 6 months.

Would endorse this. I got an Irish passport in about 2 months but for my daughter (one grandparent who was Irish) the FBR took just over 6 months.

I have a pretty clear sense of my own identity which I would retain whatever my documentation said. When it comes to a passport I would sail under whatever flag of convenience gave me the best of options. Unlike my wife and daughter with Cypriot family connections I don't have any dual nationality options, unless Scotland becomes independent.

I am eligible for Italian citizenship via my great great grandfather but it would mean a heap of work (birth/marriage certificates for everyone in the direct line between us) and almost certainly employing a specialist lawyer to research and apply.
I intend to retire in 1-2 years and might live abroad but I don't think leaving the EU will make a huge amount of difference to that, as long as I've got enough income/savings (should have).

Look at the amount of British people living in the US,Hong Kong Singapore etc. Before we even start on the antipodes. This belief or rather middle class affectation that we will not be able to work in Paris or Milan any more is just nonsensical as a) most British migrants will go to English speaking countries to work and b) very few people have the language skills to work in mainland europe anyway

This EU passport stuff is utter guff. If you get a job in Paris post brexit making artisan bread or curating an art gallery I am pretty sure residency and visas will not be a problem

That’s an obsession the old dears in Spain and totally skews the debate. Go down Clarke quay on a Thursday night and see all the Brits having drinks after work - it’s hassle getting an e pass for Singapore but somehow th have managed. Don’t need PR or a sing passport to live and work. How many Brits are in the US or Australia? Loads. Working. The belief that we cannot leave the EU because some people like living on the costas with minimal paperwork is just nonsense.

But I believe there some countries, like Japan, which do not allow dual citizenship? So you will have to give up your U.K. passport to get a Japanese one?

India doesn’t allow dual citizenship either
