Yeh. They're free agents for a reason

If we had moved quickly, there was quality to be had in the free agent market - Messi or Aguerrooooo would have been nice.

In all seriousness, this year there's an extra reason for (decent) players to be free agents - cash strapped clubs letting a high earner go when they ordinarily would have been willing/able to keep them on.

As long as it's from a league where the wages are lower than the EPL (i.e. all of them, with the caveat of the 'super clubs' within them), they'd be more affordable to us.

Did Gary Cahill get clever and shoot himself in the foot??..... Rumoured to be on 100k+ at Palace, turned down new contract and ends up at Muff in the championship on Shirley a big deal less

Depends what Palace offered him I guess. He may also be looking at a serious promotion bonus, which would be low risk for the Muff.

Besides, it would be perfectly understandable to accept a big pay cut to get away from that sh|t hole and the great unwashed that worship there.

Whatever the detail and motives, I won't feel too sorry for him as I'd imagine he'll still be on an annual salary of somewhere between £1.5 and £2.5m, just for playing football.

Sturridge, Welbeck and Lallana would be like a retro England team. When England were crap.

From the BBC round-up of latest gossip:

Daniel Sturridge scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Mallorca as the former England striker, 32, continues to search for a new club having been a free agent since leaving Trabzonspor in March 2020. (Mirror)

Still available, for good reasons. Welbeck worked out so maybe worth another punt?
