I don't have strong views on fox hunting either way but I do object to the Scottish MPs reneging on the generally accepted practice of not voting on English and Welsh only issues.

Not in Scotland where an unlimited number of dogs can be used. You're Scottish aren't you?

Yes. Yes I am. And fox-hunting is as barbaric a practice in Scotland as it is in England. Tho I strongly suspect it is mainly practised on the humungous estates overwhelmingly owned by the usual non-Scottish tax-dodging suspects. Which root cause the SNP aim to tackle, so far as is possible. Hoorah!

I thought the vote was only postponed till a law was passed to stop Scottish MP's voting on things that do not include Scotland?

On the radio they were suggesting there were several reasons the SNP threatened to vote against the changes.

1) They are seeking to align their rules with ours so feel it is in their interests that the 'English and Welsh' rules remain the same.
2) A protest that the Scotland Bill didn't deliver all that was promised by Cameron/Milliband and Clegg
3) To give Cameron a bloody nose.

Scottish propaganda at its best:

Earlier she (Nicola Sturgeon) had explained her party's decision to take part in the hunting vote, saying there had been "overwhelming demand" from people in England.

Think not, I would suspect that the overwhelming demand from people in England (&Wales) would be for the SNP not to vote on matters that will not effect Scotland.

Can someone without being political explain to a 'plum' like me why on earth do we have the Union ?

So we can keep the Jocks at arms length whilst they try to huff and puff and try to swing punches with big grins on our boats.

The Nats are desperate to become significant in Parliament. As things stand they are nothing other than protesting bystanders suffocated by the number 12 – the tory majority. Kind Hearts and Coronets is now rumoured to have toppled Braveheart from the tartan inspirational movie charts!

Angus Robertson was positively dribbling with excitement in his interviews today and Nicola Sturgeon was once again given the rock star treatment by the mischievous media. For a party drunk on attention this was the biggest fix they’ve had since the election. 2014 relived!

This was a FREE vote! (Except for the Nats) - On a conscience subject. Many Tories, naturally, are against blood sports and it would have been these non-whipped MP’s, if the vote had gone ahead, who threw out the Bill not the Nats.

Alex Salmond is clinging to the hope that 12 Tories can be “knocked off” by the end of the Parliament to wipe out their majority – that’s one every 5 months – so they need to get some good news fairly soon to get the ball rolling.

Mind you, I don’t know where you live, but the Conservative majority in my constituency is so huge that you’d need to bump of most off the population too.

Dennis Price would really have his work cut out!

What's odd about it is that the Tories really went to town with their scaremongering running up to the election, suggesting that voting Labour would see a weak government ruled by the Scots. And the sad truth is many people believed it, and wouldn't vote for Ed's party as a result (although this was far from the only reason).

Now they've let themselves be embarrassed by the Scots, making it look to the layman like the Tory government has to pander to the wishes of the SNP in certain matters. Never mind that, as was pointed out above, there are plenty within their own party who are broadly against relaxing the laws on foxhunting, and with a majority of only 12, and almost every other MP in parliament unlikely to vote in favour (I don't know about the one UKIP MP's views on the matter), it was always going to be very difficult to get it through.

On the one hand Cameron did make it a manifesto pledge, but he's already broken several of them so I don't see why there was any desire to drag this one up now.

I can see why some people might see it as clever politicking but to be honest it just makes the man, and the party, look weak. It reinforces the image of the Tories being wildly out of touch with the population and concerning themselves with matters that really should be nowhere near the head of the agenda given the state of the country elsewhere.

In many respects Osborne's budget last week earned them some credibility among those not smart enough to see what was really happening, with the big headline "living wage" business.

But all those people who'd have been wooed by that budget move are exactly the same people who'll be disappointed by this foxhunting move and will now be questioning whether Dave and co really do have a clue.

Shambolic. And I hope it comes back to bite them in the arse
