Who was the first loan signing you can recall at Brighton?
Has the loan system always been in place, albeit with sometimes different rules?

I seem to think Barry bridges was a loan player...must have been many before him though i imagine

Brian Dear (as mentioned on the loans thread). Looked a cracking player - shame about the weight problem.

Rustington, Littlehampton
Goalkeeper Ron Fearon, who we got on-loan from Ipswich...This was back when the loan system was used sensibly and you only got someone in when you were seriously in the shit and not filling your team with them for an entire season.

Being only 26 mine is slightly more recent then the above.

I actually recall two loanees but cant remember which came first. Would have been around 1994, a young Ade Akinbye and Paul Dickov.

My immediate thought was Martin Keown but as names appear I will probably say oh yes I remember him. Thinking about it didnt we borrow a goalkeeper called Les or Phil Woolgar from a local side when we had goalkeeper injuries.

Can't remember anyone before Brian Dear - now a Freeman of the City of London I believe - for a fat little so and so he was pretty quick over 5 yards and had a great shot on him. Would've been different class if he had been fit

I have a recurring flashback that we had John Jackson for this reason, or was it Burridge (doubtful)..

Martin Keown is the firsy loan signing i can remember us making, when he was a young reserve player at Arsenal. We used him up front for a couple of games.
