Are you seriously suggesting that Italian football clubs will never again challenge for any kind of European competiton. If so you are quite mad!

It was less than 12 months ago that Inter won the European Cup, so hardly the death of Italian football

Yep, but they had "the special one" then, and it was a rather odd campaign all round.

What I mean is that we are so used to Italian club teams being in at least semi finals of the Champions League, the National team being there or there abouts in National competitions. They only won the World Cup 5 years ago. Italian football has been on a slow decline pretty much since then, confirmed by Italians poor performance in the 2010 World Cup.

Yes it's only been five years since Italy won the World Cup, and only a year since Inter Milan won the Champions League, but I think that will be the last time we see an Italian club in a final, possibly even a semi final, for a number of years, unless something big changes.

They'll always be there, as the rest of the Italian league is so poor, the Milan's are pretty much guaranteed to be in the competition, but the days of them being a real force in the competition, I think, are over.
