In football it seems to be ok to spend up to 110% for some clubs. In retail we were expected to run between 5-6% of turnover.

how can they pay him and we apparently can't pay any to anyone
My understanding is that there is money in the pot to pay for a striker, but they are trying to find the right player, rather than the first player, as we have had our fingers burnt from taking that approach before.

It's not just a new training ground to produce new players its to try to attract players to sign for the club and stop losing youngsters from Sussex to the London Clubs ,it's were most of the time the players will work. It should help to improve our currant squad as they will also be training on good surfaces. Lets build a sustainable club for the future. Please don't take to long I am struggling with the steps up to:the WSU as I might have to move to the east stand.
I don't KNOW. I just know if I was an underwriter or actuary I probably couldn't price PPI for footballers and make a profit. There may be special policies but having spent a while consulting for insurance companies I've never heard of them.

20m is probably about the same as Tony Bloom will have ploughed into the albion over the last 3 seasons. And that doesn't include the stadium or the academy. So I don't think we should be getting our knickers in a twist over Donny investors planning to spend it over 5.

The players are under contract to the club, OBVIOUSLY they're still being paid.

That sort of insurance pays out a proportion of wages after a waiting (deferral) period depending on the ability to work. With, say, a software company, you are covering someone who sits on their arse and probably earns between 25 and 70k a year. A footballer will do things every day that put them at risk of a claim and may make more than that in a week. Every insurance company works primarily on the business of risk - or rather avoiding it.

We've already nearly lost our club once. I don't fancy going through that again.
If the club has to tighten its belt and not make the Premier League as a result then so be it. I'd rather follow a well run Championship side than a Premier League team that's a ticking time bomb.

Given that FFP allows losses of £3-8 million a year for the next few years the answer is no.
My word. There are so many of these comments but it's really quite simple. Player wages are in the region of 52 x 30 x 5000 = £7.8m pa. More than gate receipts.

This is of course the sensible approach that will ensure the long term health and viability of the club BUT I'm getting old so I'd urge Tony to spunk money as recklessly as possible in an attemp to gratify me before the reaper has his way.

I would rather Bloom said "I've spent £100million on the stadium, another £30m is going on the training ground, I've invested in players for a couple of seasons, but for now I am now consolidating and not spending any more".
That I would take happily, and sit back and enjoy.
