does any one the actual distance details involved? That Sun story had completly different numbers to what i read somewhere else, that 50 miles was territorial (though i thought it was alot lower than that). i also recall the current drilling is infact outside any "disputed" area anyway, some 60 miles offshore and that the argies could just roll up with a rig next to it and we could do a thing.

"Beast ... huge HMS York is 141-meters long"

Huge?? What the hell happened to real warships? The Bismarck was 100 m longer than that...

Oh, and sorry to throw a bit of pedantry into the mix, but does the Sun not realise that in UK English it's 141 metres.

Although it would be a parking meter.

It won't kick off again, the circumstances are very different. Last time Argentina had a military dictator who was in big trouble with his people so he needed to show how strong he was. But he picked a fight with the wrong person!

As I understand it territorial waters are 12 miles for fishing, customs, etc. Other things such as mineral rights are up to 200 miles, the Falklands is 300 miles from Argentina.

So Britain has a legal claim to any oil which may or may not be there but being realistic there is a problem getting it from the Falklands to your friendly neighbourhood petrol station. Almost certainly we will do a deal with Argentina to build a refinery there and share the booty (if any)

they ship oil from alaska or the middle east to refineries, probably elsewhere. they just need a point to hold it in between ships. the refinery is where the real valu eadd is, they wont be building any refineries in Argentina. it will all come here.

Dont you just think that the Sun has made more of this story than it warrants. Perhaps just to sell a few more papers..........surprised that they didn't try and come up with a new headline of "Gotcha" or something.

The Sun would love a war. Sorry to disappoint it, but it aints gonna happen.

Btw, it wouldn't bother me one bit if we shared the oil with Argentina
