Not watched the final for years but finding myself enjoying this. Also thinking many of these players will be at The Amex some point next season- I really can't wait.

Some of them have already played there. Arsenal in the FA cup and Chelsea in a pre-season friendly.

What's all this madness? Kick off at 5.30pm, Wenger winning a trophy and Arsenal fans being noisy and singing their hearts out.

So many football traditions are being discarded like used crisp packets.

One of the best cup finals I've ever watched,end to end drama, the game had everything and even the underdog won
Played out in a sun soaked Wembley, felt like a great sporting occasion had returned to its full glory
Watched in bar while on holiday in Torquay, over a hundred people watching, and have to say I can't remember a more quiet and respectful minutes silence from inside Wembley and inside a pub as at 5:30 yesterday in respect to the Manchester victims
As Glenn Hoddle said and I quote " that's the best minutes silence I've ever heard"

Remember when they had coverage from the team hotels and on the coach to the stadium. I know the Bellhouse Hotel in Beaconsfield was one of the usual team places.

The burnham beeches hotel was the usual one, its where the National team used to stay as quiet secluded and golf course next door. Cov stayed in Marlow, The Complete Angler I think. Sure Dave Beasant or someone swam across the Thames after a little too much to drink during their celebrations. Or a fan did to join the party. Something like that anyway! Crazy days.

Gone are the days when it was on ITV with wrestling with big nmes taking part pre game. It was a ritual to watch from about 12 noon until the presentation of the cup at about 5.30pm

always used to watch the f.a cup at home with me dad.....home made ham , crusty white rolls , courage light ale , abide with me......never forget those afternoons.....another English institution that's been ruined by over commercialisation and an seemingly endless stream of C grade " personalities". imho

Like a lot of the more mature football fans on here I remember the times when FA Cup final days were a special occasion.

It used to occupy broadcast coverage from 9am to kick off time at 3pm. It was probably one of the few live games that were broadcast and necessitated getting in food and beer and hours of sitting on the couch watching with mates.

The special nature of this match has been consigned to history.

Shame isn't it. Not too long ago there was a group of us who would hold a Cup Final day booze up. Each year it would take place at a different friend's house. The timetable of events consisted of :

12.00 - 2.40 p.m. - Pub

2.40 - 2.50 p.m. - Stagger back to allotted friend's house

2.51 p.m. - Open up a variety of cans and bottles of any alcoholic description

2.55 p.m. - A sweepstake would take place for i) Winning team and result. ii) Name of player scoring winning goal. iii) First person to fall asleep in front of TV. *

* The record for this (in)activity is held at 7 minutes from kick off!

3.00 p.m. - Watch the match and top up booze as required

3.45 p.m. - Break for halftime with French bread and various cheeses, pies etc. Start on the wine, continue with beers

4.00 p.m. - Second half. Slurring in the ranks as booze takes hold

4.50 p.m. - Results of sweepstake are announced

5.00 p.m. - Retire to pub (or a bit later if extra time)

6.00 p.m. onwards - Can't remember!

But I used to enjoy the old Cup Finals in the days before substitutes when the goalie would break his leg (or his neck in the case of Bert Trautman) and play the last 30 minutes of the game hanging around at outside right.

Real footballers in them days.

Didn't the Wigan Chairman, Dave Whelan, once break his leg in a Cup Final. I think he did, but, he never, ever mentions it
