It's notable the referees who have been chosen and the ones who haven't.

I'm not sure it's been mentioned here yet, but we have a new referee joining the PL this season - Jarred Gillett, an Aussie who worked in the Championship for the last 2 seasons after leaving the A League. Here's a great video of him miked up for his last A League match, including talking through his use of VAR for an offside decision:

Thats what we need in the Prem, miked up refs so we can hear what and why they are making decisions.

Its as has been said time and time again, VAR technology isn't the problem, its the people using it , and the interpretation of the rules.

This has been my feeling as well.

Far too many refs with egos in the Premier League. Susceptible to crowd and big club bias.

We joke about never getting a penalty at Old Trafford, and we’ve seen first hand how true that is with Welbeck being denied a blatant one. Too many posturing egos without the balls to give unpopular decisions against the big sides.

We shouldn’t notice referees. That’s how good the Euros has been. I have no doubt Mike Dean would have been posturing all over the place with his showmanship if he were there.

I must admit I saw the VAR at the women's world cup and I thought it worked very well.
As soon as our season started VAR seemed to be absolutely shit and I have been calling for it to binned for ages now.

But at the euros it has been very good and I can now see once again how it can work.
The big problems in the premier League are that our refs don't use the pitchside monitors and they almost have an arrogance about their desicions being questioned but also VAR seems to want to be the main officiator during the match.

At the euros the VAR has quietly gone about its checks and quickly made a desicion if required and also the referees have used the pitchside monitors if required and also been humble enough to accept that they got things wrong or missed something with their original desicion.

I hope our officials can get it right like they have at this tournament because VAR really has been good at this tournament.

All to do with the way referees are told to use it in the Premier League I think. Sure, we’ve got some poor refs but it’s the nit-picking approach of their bosses that seem to be the major problem. Let the game flow, ignore players throwing themselves around even if there’s a bit of contact and save it for potentially game-changing situations. But a ref that tries to do that in England wouldn’t stay on the list for long. Maybe this tournament will really highlight how they’re damaging the PL ‘product’ - that’s what might bring about change.
