Ok, so apparently one accused Peer has dementia and cannot be questioned. Even if that is the case, I see no reason that he cannot be named.
They also mention in the article that P.I.E. funding was given by the Home Office - at the request of Special Branch. Hmmm.

The Times is focusing on other emerging child abuse matters - todays front page refers to the Sussex Police 'Operation Mitre' and serious allegations regarding Ashdown House school at East Grinstead. The article also briefly mentions historical investigations previously conducted by Sussex Police regarding the Anglican diocese of Chichester.
Yesterday The Times expressed concern at specialist Police resources now being diverted from current case work relating to vulnerable children in order to deal with the 'hundreds of historical complaints of child abuse' that are now emerging.
Sadly this all serves to underline the wider scale of this issue.

Why not; as a default setting have all past,present and aspiring politicians,members of the judiciary,the royal family,light entertainers,hereditary peers and senior civil servants declared paedophiles and put the onus on them to prove their innocence.

I agree, maybe they are deliberately targeting peripheral (but still related) stories rather than just follow the crowd on this one.
Sadly the scale of the child abuse allegations indicates there may well be many, many lines of inquiry to be followed and The Times may be looking to expose a new angle or scoop. I guess the allegations regarding Ashdown House are of public interest as various minor royals, prominent politicians (including Boris and Andrew Mitchell) and 'A' list celebs are 'old boys'.
Are you suggesting more questionable motives for their lack of coverage? If so, what do you think those motives might be?
Not suggesting anything. But we do know that Murdoch is a chum of many of the leading lights in this country. But I'm obviously not connecting the two.

I first remember reading about Elm House and paedophiles and PIE when I was in a craft lesson at school in the early 80’s.. I didn’t enjoy craft lessons so would usually just sit and read through the newspapers which were used to keep the desks and workbenches clean.
I remember there was a big double page spread in one of them which linked Elm House, PIE, the Spartacus group, child-porn filming facilities in Amsterdam, child abduction at fairgrounds by a paedophile ring, and ultimately, murder. I clearly remember it mentioning that government officials and politicians had been spotted entering and leaving Elm House.
It really upset me as a young teenage boy not least because they were talking about young teenage boys being abused.
It’s absolutely disgraceful that it has taken so long for something ‘official’ to happen.
Before the term ‘paedophile’ was widely used, people would be referred to as ‘child molesters’ or ‘kiddie-fiddlers’, or ‘dirty old men’, which, whilst not ‘nice’ terms, would invoke more a roll of eyes rather than widespread disgust. Some of these people were doubtless child rapists, but this too was almost cloaked and the impact lessened by use of the term ‘buggery’.
I’d love to think that everyone involved in cases such as these is now panicking, terrified that they will finally have to face up to their crimes, but sadly they’ll probably never have to.
