I see a fair few people wanting or expecting Gerrard/Lampard/Howe to be sacked. We want them all to do well, that way there'll be more than Potter's name in the ring when it comes down to sourcing a replacement for Southgate(when the time comes).

Well if they get sacked they might actually be easier to hire... could be wrong but not sure any of them would like to leave club football to do this part-time job.

Other than that I'm all for it. Frank Lampard's England.

Well Southgate got Boro relegated, got sacked the next season and ended up as England manager. A December sacking of any one of the three mentioned and they will be in pole position to take over if Southgate gets the boot after the world cup. Big question is will any of them be considered compliant enough to be appointed England manager.

I do not want any of them to do well next season either

'd quite like the next England manager to be both competent and have a proven successful idea on how to play the game. So far Lampard has done neither and the jury is still out on Gerrard. Howe did great at Bournemouth, was sacked after a few months at Burnley and has only had a few months at Newcastle.

I accept we may have different preferred outcomes for the England national team...

I think the only one with any real shot at the England job would be Howe as he has a proven track record in the premier league. If he was sacked after less than a year at Newcastle you could make a strong argument that it wasn't a deserved sacking(unless he has them in or very close to the relegation zone) so it wouldn't hurt his reputation.

If Lampard gets sacked by Everton then that would be three consecutive jobs at different sized clubs with different needs that he would have done a solidly unspectacular job. I'm not sure that would get the England job now, not when we've finally got back to the sharp end of tournaments.

Same with Gerrard. If he gets sacked by Villa then his cv is pretty thin. Winning in Scotland doesn't get you that far reputation wise. Nor does spending a lot of money and then getting sacked from a middling premier league club.

So that leaves a smug v Potter shoot out if Southgate were to leave after the world cup. I'm not keen on either option. One is Eddie Howe the other involves us losing our manager.

We might need Scott Parker to finish in the European places next season...

I just can’t see GP being ready for a part time job. Hopefully he wants to finish what he started at the Albion, but I do worry about a Top six club being brave enough to go for him. Arsenal? I think we’d struggle to keep him if a club like that came in for him

I have never liked Smug, well because he is smug but I think he’d be an excellent England manager. His teams play football the right way

GPott will expect to be in the frame for the England job 5-10 times, over the course of his career.
I genuinely have no idea why anybody thinks he'll jump at the first opportunity.

I find the distance so many posters are prepared to travel, in order to be upset by something that isn't going to happen, quite staggering.

My guess is that once GS leaves its not going to be any of those mentioned.

Sean Dyche maybe. Or Steve Cooper - yes, he is Welsh, but he won the U17 World Cup with England so I'm guessing your FA is following him. Another option could be some old "name"... Stuart Pearce, Steve Bruce. Or if the FA is very happy with GS they might even go with someone from his backroom staff, like Graeme Jones.

It's too early to tell because the fixtures aren't out yet and the transfer window has so long to go, but all things being equal I'd say Marco Silva at Fulham. They'll be without Carvalho, they coasted the Championship and I'm not sure they'll be mentally prepared for the season ahead. Too many players there who have failed at Prem level in the past.

Yeah, I agree on Howe. I think he would make a half decent manager. Particularly as his skills would probably match the players we have, namely he's not a great defensive coach but is a god attacking/goalscoring one. He's just got a punchable presence...

That is a terrifying list.

The open secret of Poch leaving PSG has finally come to fruition.

Begging the obvious:-

Who's job is he going to take in the Premier League?

Don't worry - we have Barber working at the FA - it'll take them years to read the reference he gives Potter.

The rumour was that Dyche and his team were lined up for the Everton job, but the Burnley owner got wind of this and confronted the ginger dalek, who confirmed that this was the case. He got immediate dismissal and is now waiting in the wings to step into Franks shoes. Could be ball hooks, but who knows!

Waiting for Frank to fail.
I hope he's...

Lampard is inept - so his sacking is just a matter of time.

Cooper has done a good job at Forest - but a lot of that was down to the outstanding form of the loan signings. With the loanees gone and Samba (and possibly Johnson) also heading out the door, I'd be surprised if Forest weren't shown to be completely out of their depth.

You'd also have to expect Bournemouth to struggle - so Parker is on the list (I think Fulham will fare better).

I suspect that Brentford will face the second season crisis - and will struggle - putting Frank on the list.

Hasenhuttl is always on th list - and always survives - I suspect that he will continue to do so (and Southampton have a few young players coming through)

After that - Rodgers has a major rebuilding job to do - which will put him under pressure - but I suspect he will be given time, even if Leicester struggle.

The reality is that, excluding the top 6/7 teams - any team could end up with a poor run of form and struggle. The gap is so big that it is well-nigh impossible to breach and the rest of the division are pretty much in the same boat - except for the propmoted teams who will probably continue to yo-yo given the parachute money and the impact it has on the Championship.

Bruno Lage. Wolves were dire end of season. Friend is a season ticket holder and said lots of bust ups on the training ground.

Would be my guess too. His record at Benfica took a similar nosedive after a year and there were also reports of dressing room trouble. It seems to me that he coasted the first half of the season on Nuno's team's defensive organisation and that as things have changed, they've done so for the worse.

That's why, with the obvious exception of FCFL, I agree with you.

We may not want to admit it and neither would the wankpuffins, but that middle of band of clubs are in my view a handful of personnel changes away from being at the wrong end. We could absorb the loss of a 'game changer' but not three 'main men' unless we could cannily upgrade. A highly successful squad freshening could take us the other way mind.
