Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
We won the World Cup in 66 because we were the host nation and there were only 16 countries in the competition. We don't have the ability and don't improve the coaching methods because we 'invented' the game. We are stuck in the dark ages.

Lack of passion. Compare this lot with the likes of Pearce, Gascoigne etc who shed blood and tears for their country.
Famous heroes of 1966 Stuart Pearce and Paul Gasgoigne.

wait, what

2010 - Poor Decision by the linesman, Ok we would have gone out anyway...
2008 - Steve Mclaren
2006 - Rooney sent off and Penalties, would have lost in SF anyway.
2004 - Rooney Injury, Campbell goal dissallowed, Penalties. We could have won this...
2002 - Lucky goal, would have won SF and certain we would have beaten Germans in the final
2000- Utter tripe , would have gone out in QF if it wasn't for Phil Neville.
1998 - Beckham sending off, Campbell goal dissallowed, Penalties
1996 - Certain we would have won the final, Penalties...Gascogine's miss, Anderton hitting the post
1990 - May well have lost the final but bloody unlucky not to get there, Waddle hitting the inside of the post and PENALTIES!!!

With a bit of luck and passion...you never know.

The days of "Managers" are long gone!

It's the X & Y Generation, youngsters today need motivating and to be constantly engaged through effective coaching and guidance rather than Shouted at. Football is evolving and like many businesses, need coaches/leaders rather than managers. One Kid I met after the last shambles of a world cup, told me how he visited Brazil and they play tekkers to warm up with bare feet. What do we do? Make them run around a field for 20 mins to warm up and play 8 year old kids on a full size pitch with parents shouting to get into em!!

The fact remains, until the FA change their whole set up and clubs in the premiership start developing their youth acadamys based around technique, possession and passing we will win f*** all!!

I personally dont buy into the foreigners in premiership, if youth teams are developed and someone has the technique and quality, they will break thru!

Too much emphasis on individual players and not enough emphasis on the team.
We won in 1966 as we had a good team. Not the best individual players necessarily, but a good team.
Because other than a few brief moments in 1986, 1990 and 1996, England have not known what their best team is.

Almost everything apart from conspiracy, last time we had a team (with one or two exceptions) worthy of wearing a shirt with three lions on it was in 1990, pretty much everything since then has been pants.

It's very simple. We are taught to play the game the wrong way. Players get put in a set position, for example a centre back, at 8 years old, so the kid gets about 10 touches of the ball a game and doesn't learn how to play the game properly. Contrast that to Brazil or Spain, by the time the player is 18 he has played in every single position on the pitch, and is completely comfortable on the ball. Result = far superior players who understand how to keep the ball and not give away possession.

Until this attitude changes in England, we will not be successful at the very top level.

Oh and this bizarre obsession in playing the supposed top 11 players in the country regardless of system, rather than picking the best team.

Why?? Because they can never beat the big teams, England 4 Holland 1 the only exception at major finals since 66. Thats is the cruel reality, yes the Albion have been more big sides than England

In the past we didn't have the players, today its combination of players and attitude thanks to the mega bucks of the Premiership...

England beat France 3-1 in 1982 and Argentina 1-0 in 2002.

England beat France 3-1 in 1982 and Argentina 1-0 in 2002.

They also beat Germany in Charleroi, 2000 - it's a shame that isn't remembered more, due to the disaster in the final group game against Romania. But even that win was hardly total football.
