The Fiesta, Britain's best selling car, won't be made any more :(

Soon after I first met Mrs Wz, she was trading in her company Golf Gti for a Fiesta XR2 and I loved it. It was so much lighter, responsive and better to drive than the Golf (not a popular view at the time). Being a good working class lad, I've always loved the fast Fords, for years growing up dreaming of owning a Lotus Cortina Mk1 (something I never achieved), but I have had a lovely ST220 estate and a Scorpio Cosworth estate when my kids were young. The Scorpio was ugly as shit, but you didn't notice when you were in the driver's seat.

*edit* Fast Fords, I just remembered a V6 3 litre Capri when I was still young and stupid

I do realise that we have to move to electric for the good of my kids, theirs and beyond, but I hate to see these marvellous cars of my childhood (and later) go

I have kept my 25+ year old, mid life V8 4 litre convertible just in case of a power cut, but only do a couple of thousand miles each year

What petrol cars will you miss ?

Loved my Peugeot 205GTi back in the day. Now drive a Hybrid Merc and getting a Charging point installed at Jakarta Towers.

Mrs Jakarta can't be separated from her SLK 250 so we will be petrol based for a while!

Still keeping my CBR600F3 and looking forward to getting either a Yamaha RD350LC or RD400 next year as a retirement pressie to myself.
(Anyone got one tucked away in a shed BTW happy to take it off your hands...)

Given how many miles the Honda has done I will almost certainly be polishing both more than riding them.

Fords? I've had a few - a bog standard Escort and a Granada (think The Sweeney!). Not particuarly attached to either. Wish I still had my British Racing Green with cream leather seats and a fabulous sound system StreetKa though! Lovely little beast!

There's a few others I've had that I'd love to drive again - my Renault 750, my yellow Mr. Bean mini, my A40 Farina, the J4 van, and either of my two 2CVs (terrible cars in many ways - but oh, what fun!)

It's not just the end of petrol cars. When petrol cars go, so do manual transmissions. They are critically endangered in the US as it is.
I can't believe I completely forgot that in my opening post.

It's just another way the 21st century is trying to overrule Darwin's theory of taking out stupid genes. SEE THAT ? THAT'S GO ! THAT ONE ? THAT'S STOP

No wonder we re where we are :shootself

And relax ......

I miss (not in chronological order) my 205GTi, my Jag XJ6, My MK1 Ford Escort (not a Mexico sadly) and my E30 BMW 3 series. All in the past for me, but they all had a character that I’ve struggled to find in more modern vehicles.

I’m hoping that perhaps the switch to electric will enable car designers to rediscover a bit of the magic that these older vehicles had.

A pal of mine was a motor mechanic.. he hated Ford's, he said they were all engineered to last 80,000 miles while every other car brand aimed for 100,000 +..... I had a Ford Orion for a while, mate convinced me to get a Hyundai from the dealership where he worked...could not be arsed to sell the Orion so I did a part exchange....drove off with a nice Hyundai. . Saw pal from garage a month later...he said " your Orion was put in to Shoreham Car Auction as they did not touch Ford's....the gearbox exploded on the way to auction ! Car scrapped ! " ..." You lucky Bastard "

I need to do some maths on electric cars.

How expensive does electricity need to be before the cost of a EV battery recharge to do 400 miles becomes more expensive that petrol [or diesel] to do 400 miles.

Okay, I acknowledge there is a fossil fuel argument too - so when will be at a point where NONE of our power stations burn fossil fuel to generate electricity?

Not wishing to appear a luddite, but is this really the right time to switch to EVs?

No one alive today will see the end of petrol cars. The infrastructure isnt in place and can you imagine trying to charge your car from the 10th floor on Grand Avenue? The grid cannot cope and its a long way from that. Sad to see Fiesta go Ive never owned one but driven hire car Fiestas. I guess the Corsa will see an upsurge in interest. Or the new KA+ that looks virtually like a Fiesta unless thats being withdrawn too?
