Not only KLLs return to Newcastle (coals to Newcastle, geddit?) but that often teams make a decisive signing in the January window. Potentially a season changing one. So the relative strength of squads can change a lot in January.

Imagine if Peterborough signed a Gordon Greer. Free scoring but suddenly tight at the back. Presumably SW and Hudd and Southampton have the budget to sign anyone they need - and potentially from clubs like us? The old "six pointer" transfer (like Calderon almost was in the close season).

I'm thrilled by our form and as things stand, see no reason why we can't carry on doing well. But in January, things change.

Wouldn't you put us among those clubs though? While I don't think we will be spending millions in January, I think there is money to spend and we certainly would not sell any of our players to rival league one clubs. Why would they go anyway at the moment?

Losing LuaLua would obviously be a blow but I am confident Gus has possible replacements lined up and away from home he doesn't start that often anyway.

I am not saying we will win promotion, I just think we can compete financially with Peterborough, Sheffield Wednesday (who are apparently struggling) and Huddersfield, although probably not Southampton.

Not sure we are one of those clubs (didn't someone say we are 8th in the spending/budget list) - and I'd hope based on previous experience that we'd come out at least at parity at the end of the trasfer window. But there are some clubs who can fundamentally change things with the budget they have at hand. Two of those make a decisive move and Jan to May is easily long enough to charge the top.

However, I'm still pretty confident about this season. In Gus we trust!

It will be interesting to see what happens in January. I don't see any club except Southampton (who are well out of our league) with the resources to spend massively in January but maybe I am wrong.

What Gus has shown is that you don't need to spend money on massive transfer fees to succeed. If you look at the players he has brought in on free tranfers it is quite an impressive list including Ankergren, Brezovan, Painter, Calderon, Sparrow, Kishishev and Bridcutt.

I agree about trusting in Gus. I firmly believe that we have the best manager and coaching staff in the league and they have turned us into the best team (at the moment) even if we don't have the best individual players.

I think Bournemouth deserve alot of credit. They are second and have already played Us,Saints,Hudders,Posh,Wednesday.
We have yet to beat a team in the top 6 They have and hammered Posh.I think they will deffo finish in the play offs.

But you get that at every level of the game. Ask any pub team what their strength is and they're likely to say their passing, they like to get the ball down and play etc. but the majority of goals will be long balls.

I remember a thread on here last year linking to an article (possibly of Slade) explaining the strengths of the long ball game, but generally speaking no team admits to playing hoofball or roughing up the opposition, everyone wants to claim to play the pretty stuff.

And let's be honest we beat B'Muff too really...!!!!!!!!!!!

I think some store should be set by what Eddie Howe did and said at Withdean - changed his game to disrupt our style of play because he felt they wouldn't be able to keep up.

That's the Bournemouth manager's opinion of Brighton, that is.
