Bracknell, when you say that Prescott could make a final decision in the Autumn - is that Autumn 2005? It still doesn't feel like 100% good news yet - just more of the same...

Thanks, Lord B, I've come back to normality. I was about to prepare a bus to fling John Prescott under and then drive over him several times. I was also going to post a large VOTE CONSERVATIVE message on the board. I wonder how Des Turner felt when he first read the news?

So does it mean that we have to revisit all the other criteria or just the alternative site part of it ?..what if we cant prove anywhere else unsuitable ?

in retrospect this is a bit obvious, but we where all blind to this scenario although i do seem to recall someone suggesting this was going to be the case.

The Public Inquiry would have had its scope limited to virtues of the case for Falmer. Hollie's report suggested other sites might be viable, so its inevitable that we would have to revist them.

Hopefully it shouldnt take too long, as all we have to do is resubmit the details from the original planning application and those from the Local planning inquiry which both gave a yes.

Its just a pain in the arse that they couldnt have made this decision months ago.

Not the real one
Shouldn't be too difficult to prove there is nowhere else, after all the club have actually done that! Just hope prescott doesn't take another year to decide this part of the inquiry. Fat bastard.

I feel a bit better now that I have read Lord B's report. I am still gobsmacked that the alternative sites issue hasn't been proven already.

I'm not sure whether to cry at the further delay or celebrate the positive news

It's Swindon all over again. SCR (Fallon) break our hearts but Samrah (Virgo) to the rescue.

Remeber it took 8 months from the end of the last inquiry to get to this point. Now we have to basically start again and re-argue the case for Falmer whilst the Nimbys can just ramble on and on about the possibility of other sites. What if say Waterhall gets suggested and the end of the new inquiry. Then we will have to have another full public inquiry on that site before which the club would have to spend millions and yet more time on coming up with detailed plans. This whole process could go on for years!

Thanks Lord B, that has confirmed the thoughts I was mulling over in my mind whilst I had taken up smoking again (having sort of quit for an hour and a half pending a "Yes").

So all we have to do is prove that the other sites aren't appropriate and we're in the clear.

Pick yourselves up folks, one more lap to go!!

My understanding of it is that the NIMBYs have to PROVE the suitability of another site. Their first task will be to find one.

I've gone from rage, despair, swearing at the radio to feeling quite happy.

Fully agree with SCR who got EVERYTHING wrong. Frigging tinpot station was in such a rush to be first they took the word of some Little Englander NIMBY as being correct.

They must be punished for what they did to all of us who were listening to their report "from the beautiful, picturesque village of Falmer".

In the aftermath of the initial response, I hope that gloating old bag who "likes the Albion-just not here" realises that she got it all wrong.

Waterhall is a no. It's north of the A27, so it was ruled out at the very beginning. The stadium must be south of the A27.

Re: Southern Counties Radio Have Got It Wrong

Lord Bracknell said:
The decision is YES – provided we can prove that no other suitable site is available. To allow this to happen, the Public Inquiry will be re-opened – to deal with this aspect only. Prescott accepts that the Albion have successfully made the case for a stadium at Falmer.

Despite giving every appearance of being another delay, this announcement is EXCELLENT NEWS.

We have to jump through five hoops before we can start building at Falmer:-

1. We have to prove that the development is in the national interest. Prescott agrees that it is.

2. We have to prove that it will bring significant social, economic and community benefits. Prescott agrees that it will.

3. We have to show that any environmental damage can be overcome. Prescott agrees that this can be achieved at Falmer.

4. We have to demonstrate that there is no other suitable site available. Having had to listen to a persistent series of claims by a number of objectors that – despite the evidence at the Public Inquiry – this isn’t finally proved, Prescott is bending over backwards to ensure that all the new evidence is fully tested and cannot be challenged through the Judicial Review process.

5. We have to finalise the finance package before construction starts. This wouldn’t be possible if a threat of Judicial Review hung over the project. The delay could be at least twelve months.

By re-opening the Public Inquiry, Prescott is guaranteeing that he can’t be challenged on the “alternative site” issue. He can give a final YES by the autumn – and the NIMBYs won’t be able to challenge it.

If he said YES today, Falmer Parish Council (and possibly Lewes District Council as well) would certainly challenge it. We’d be hanging on for a year before we could make any further progress.

Today’s decision is Prescott well and truly stuffing the NIMBYs.

Go out and celebrate!!!

Dear Lord B,

Just to clarify and I haven't had time to read the report.

But does the OPDM actually use the words that he accepts our case i.e "agrees"

Cheers

LC

Congratulations!!!! It potentially sounds like very good news from what I have read albeit your patience will be tested again. However you have had to wait several years already so I think you have that in abundance. Anyway you deserve it big time for being true loyal supporters as you deserved to beat us at the Play-off final.
Well done and good luck for the forthcoming season.

Yours Bristol City season ticket holder.

I am confident that we can demonstrate that none of the other suggested sites are suitable. This will be the final nail in the coffin of those NIMBY twats.

I'd be interested in what their mood is like after today's decision - hopefully they are drowning themselves in Falmer pond after realising they are just a few months away from losing.

Much as it is hard to believe the 'only site' element hasn't been done to death, this is definitely good news. The fact is the answer is is not NO which would have been a disaster.

I was assuming that we wouldn't find out yet anyway. Surely Dick Knight and Martin Perry have a huge stack of evidence against any of the other 'proposed' sites already, and should be able to shoot down in flames any half arsed arguments for these sites that anyone i.e. the NIMBYs can come up with.

Stay cool people! :rescott: :falmer: :smokin:
