Two things. 1) they haven't been our proper rivals since the 1960s. 2) geographically, they are so much closer to Southampton than they are Brighton, so they only really give us any thought when we're actually in the same division.

Portsmouth barely even know we exist, so lets not kid ourselves that there is actually any proper rivalry with them. Yes I despise them, but not because I consider them a "rival" of ours.

As for wanting Palace to stay up just so we can pass them next year - I hardly think its a gimmie that we'll go up and they'd go down. Bollocks to that, I want two more derbies against our RIVALS next season thankyouverymuch.

Tell the people of the west of west sussex support used to stop at Chichester but it is now very common to see Portsmouth shirts in Worthing so they are gradually encroaching into our terrirtory. Coming from Worthing I was as a youngster drawn between the 2 and because of my grandads support for BHA I have supported them ever since but there we a few schoolmates who went to Fratton Park and this number has increased as they have risen up the leagues.

Yes I've seen Pompey shirts around in Worthing as well, but the point is, Pompey do not consider us as their rivals. Its ALL about Southampton for them, as the hatred between those clubs is recipricated.

Honestly BG, the Albion are not even on the radar with them.

I can appreciate that, going down would be a disaster for the club. There are plenty of local games to "look forward to" if we do drop, but playing Brighton in League One would be seriously depressing.
