I know it is hard to believe many things than come out of Matt Hancock's mouth but this is encouraging:

The UK has "increasing confidence" that Covid-19 vaccines work against the Indian variant of the virus, the health secretary has said.

It's been suggested in Spain that the rules on masks outdoors are going to be relaxed in the coming days. After a year of needing to put it on every time you step outside, that's fantastic news for me.

First vaccine dose for my fiancé and I tomorrow - another hurdle crossed before our planned wedding this Summer.

Definitely good news as far as I'm concerned.

Indian variant not spreading as fast as feared in UK – expert

Britain’s Indian variant of Covid does not appear to be spreading at the most alarming rate that could have sparked a huge third wave of Covid-19 in Britain, a leading expert said today.

Professor Neil Ferguson said the B1.617.2 mutation would have a “significant growth advantage” over other coronavirus variants, but that “the magnitude appears to have declined a bit.”

There is "increasing confidence" that Covid-19 vaccines are effective against all variants, including the Indian one, Boris Johnson has said.

At Prime Minister's Questions, he said fresh data had been reviewed earlier on Wednesday.

He also thanked people in Indian variant hotspots Bolton and Blackburn for getting a jab "in record numbers".

The spread of the Indian variant has cast doubt on plans to ease remaining restrictions in England next month.

On Tuesday, the prime minister said there was "nothing conclusive" in current data that meant England "would have to deviate from the roadmap" out of lockdown. This means legal limits on social contact could still end on 21 June.

Plenty of news items this evening about the Indian variant not being anywhere near as transmissible as feared and unlikely to delay June 21st.
Also telegraph reporting a plan to get all adults first jab by the end of June
