This may have been said before, but it counters the Doomsday scenario.

The variants that transmit the best will inevitably become the most dominant - that's obvious. Fortunately its often observed that viruses become less lethal as they evolve. That's because the predominant reason for spreading is to further their own existence. If they end up killing the host that is counter productive as they die with it.

My understanding is we have 4million ready to go, with a further 15m doses with “ingredients mixed and ready to be filled into vials and shipped in a matter of days”.

Blimey, the new series of Masterchef is extreme

When are we expecting the first of the second jabs to happen? Must be early next week?

Excellent news...would be great if they did a daily total that was published/announced daily by MSM

And so you should be proud of her

I am and a lot of others are very proud of her. Without people like her - we would be stuck. key workers, doesnt do it justice.

Mrs Peteinblack (a nurse-practitioner) was phoned this evening to be told that her application to become a member of the Bath (Somerset) vaccination team has been accepted - starts in a fortnight.

She is thrilled, and I am so proud of her :)

Can they accelerate? Are they vaccinating throughout the Xmas period? (genuine question as my dad has had his but not my mum, living with him, 18months apart in age both over 80)

I believe so - there are still lots more GP practices to come onboard, care homes are only just getting going now.

Then next week hopefully Oxford which will mean opening of the mass vaccination centres, and much easier transportation of vaccines to care homes.

It seems the hope is that ultimately we can get up to a rate of around 2million per week.

I think with the current vaccine the rate can't increase too much (and Christmas will have an effect) - but when the other vaccine comes online then can increase up to 250,000 a day and then hopefully increase that.

That would be 7.75m a month.

A full month of that would make a huge difference (even taking into account 2 doses needed etc).

More than 1 in 100 people in the UK have now been vaccinated.

Our GPs are a designated vaccine centre and have told us they're running clinics from 11th Jan. It's getting closer

My neighbour called me yesterday he'd just got the news that he is booked in for a vaccine on Jan 1st!

He is 78 and has COPD so he is absolutely delighted, they are doing his wife too and he says it's the best xmas present they could have had.
