As I’m not visiting the Covid board any more I felt I could post this here.

I am sure for some it’s not “good” news, but I am delighted to see someone standing up and taking a stance - whether you like Sadiq Khan or not!

Very sensible from Khan, good to see. Not a huge fan of him but he is spot on here, the only problem will be enforcement.

I am in agreement with the general direction of travel now (one way lifting of restrictions). Although there are valid arguments to be made for and against the timing, we had to get on with it at some point.

However, the overall consensus amongst experts is that a more gradual exit will result in fewer deaths than a sudden rush back to 'normal'. I'd suspect this will happen anyway - natural caution meaning that the majority of us are not going to suddenly revert to wild partying and cramped tube trains insofar as we can avoid them. But this move by Khan is both useful in term of the messaging (take it a bit slowly) and also the practical impact - not everyone will follow the rule, and it won't stop any spread, obviously. But will likely slow it down a bit, and that's the game now.

On another piece of positive news, the Zoe app is again showing signs of plateauing/dropping levels. I do take this with a major pinch of salt for a number of reasons. The previous slow down was pretty temporary. I suspect that fewer people are contributing than previously and so the figures are probably less reliable. And this trend is at odds with other numbers and with the overall consensus that the peak is not likely to be until August.

However, it is definitely better if the next stage of the 'exit wave' happens in the context of reducing rather than increasing rates of infection. Also the Zoe app gives a regional breakdown which shows that places likeScotland and the northwest, which were first to rise are now dropping, so it indicates that there is a limit to the peak in any one place and that the continued national rise is fuelled by places like Brighton, which had previously low levels, rather than continued rises across all regions. In other words infection rates may get worse in any given place - but never that much worse. Which makes sense given levels of antibodies now out there.

The situation is far from perfect. But it seems manageable now.

In other slow and sensible news, Bloodstock Festival announced their Covid strategy yesterday. Despite them being under no obligation to, they will ask each attendee to take a lateral flow test within 36 hours of arrival (even for the doubler jabbers like me) and entrance will only be granted to those with proof of a negative test. Once you are in, you are in and you can behave as per any festival safe in the knowledge that at least some precautions have been taken. There will also be more cleaning, the wifi reserved for traders and staff to help the card machines(although cash will still be accepted). They have had to churn about two thirds of the bill and still put together five days of cracking mostly UK based metal, brilliant stuff from the organisers.

I've got the Frank Turner gig at the Concorde next (I just can't help myself with music but will take my mask), after that I'll minimise socialising just to be on the safe side before heading to the festival.

It is. It's better than nothing though. I suspect the majority of festival goers will take it seriously, it's a good crowd at Bloodstock

The good news is on Monday I got my second jab, unfortunately went I sat down for the 15 mins I started sweating really badly. I eventually had to put my hand up in the waiting area, ask for some paper towels and tell the kind lady that I didn't have Covid, and this was me deciding to walk 1.5 miles in the humid weather to the Center and probably nerves about the jab. Felt a bit embarrassed, if I'm honest.

This morning I felt like crap, which means the jab is working. Didn't get any symptoms after the first jab and thought what the fuss was about, now I know. No sympathy from the wife as to be expected

Not sure this is good news is it? A retrogade step.

But he is Labour, He is in opposition. So whatever the government wants to do it is perhaps understandable, for political reasons, to do the opposite.

If SAGE is now saying that cases will fall within weeks because of immunity why is the London Mayor making such a drama out of it?

Well the Transport Minister agrees so the government position mirrors Khan’s position here.

Incredible. Only question is - when could this be widely available?

Just had a look at the Bloodstock lineup and had no idea Raging Speedhorn were still together!

Enjoy the festival

Fantastic news.

Got to hope with the Euros over and schools on holiday soon in England we will start to see similar falls in cases and then hospitalisations/deaths.

The vaccine has done a great job so far, but it would be great to take a bit of the wind out of the sails on the case numbers, appreciate they are not the key marker anymore.

They’ve been going so long that right now is the first time I’m old enough to realise their name is really funny.

It's normal to have side effects on the second jab with Moderna and Pfizer. I had the same with the Moderna. It means it's working I guess
