I'm 39, no underlying health conditions and have just had a text from my surgery to book jab - all booked in for next Thursday and 2nd one in July.

Looks like it's the under 40's turn now :)

I think this qualifies as good news.

After I posted the quoted message, the announcement came out about an alternative to AZ being offered to 30-40 year olds. I called my surgery this morning to check what the status now was and expecting to be told my vaccine would be postponed but no, it's still going ahead with Pfizer. According to the surgery, they're carrying on with the vaccination of all the under 40's they have booked in so they must have a good supply of Pfizer available. Hopefully this will be the case in most area's so the programme won't slow down too much.

Extract from the DT :

Britons catching Covid-19 after being vaccinated get a far milder form of the disease, according to data from the King’s College symptoms tracker app. The team at King’s said as the number of people being vaccinated increased, those reporting an infection after the jab was rising, but the symptoms had changed. Prof Tim Spector, lead scientist on the ZOE Covid Study app, and professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s, said: “Whereas in the past about half of people had classic symptoms in the first week, less than a third do now, if they've had a vaccination. “And so you're gonna get less symptoms, they'll be less severe, they won't be classic, so do keep an open mind and do get a test when we ask you to, that way we'll keep a close eye on it, and make sure that even if mild, you're not going to pass it on to other people.

UK covid alert level moved from 4 to 3, meaning the virus is now just in general circulation.

Which means until yesterday, the official view was that covid levels were either high, or increasing exponentially. Presumably the former.

I wonder what the numbers would be to class as low? We don't get to "no or minimal social distancing" until the levels are low.

You can only think this has been announced with incredibly convenient timing - pretty sure it was brought down from 5 to 4 right around one of the previous easings.

Numbers have been low for quite a while now - slight uptick possibly of recent, but hospitalisations is the key metric now.

And there's every reason to think that with the reduction in severity also comes a reduction in transmissibility.

Also for the first time since July 2020 0 deaths in England.

Tests were up 8.9% in the last week 6,734,166 in the last seven days so the small uptick in cases is nothing to worry about as hospitalisations continue to plummet.

Still looking good for next Monday and then June 21!
