Newmarket.
Had my second Astra Zeneca jab yesterday at 16:00.
First jab = No side effects.
This jab = Feel like I've got flu coming today so I've just had a really hot bath (I know, how quaint) and am now in bed. Will snooze, hopefully I'll feel alright for work in the morning.
But I'm so happy to have had them both now. Onwards and upwards (on a plane to somewhere hot soon, Boris willing).
Best wishes to all.

Incredible news. For more context, their daily infection numbers were similar to the UK’s about a month ago, which adjusted for population size is effectively 7x higher.

There is a significant difference in that they have been able to work vaccines through their 9m citizens a little bit quicker than the UK’s 66m, but nevertheless this is a glimpse into the future and a reminder of the sheer power of vaccines. I never have believed in a significant ‘third wave’ in the UK, but each day that asses brings news and data that surely makes the prospect increasingly unlikely.

I’m not sure of the credibility of that Twitter account....I’ve been following it for some while and it says one thing one day and a complete about face the next.
However if factually correct then brilliant

According to the worldometers website, which collates information from official gov sources where possible the figure today is 40 cases and 2 deaths which is still exceptionally low.

This may seem a strange thing to say, but it is good to see the daily posts in this thread going down as it means we are getting closer to the end game.

The link wordometers quote actually says 36 (once ran through a translator), but they’ve gone with 40 on their own website. Either way it’s a fantastic figure even given the slight differences in the reports, hopefully one we aren’t far off.

It’s really encouraging...........I see them as the closest to what we’re trying to do, they’re just a few weeks ahead of us so hopefully a great predictor of how things will work out here. The data for several weeks now all points in the same direction

Just an addition

Israel: Continuing to crush COVID-19

Since the mid-Jan. peak:
98% fewer cases (now 116 per day)
97% fewer critically ill (now 6 per day)
99% fewer deaths (now 2 per day)

The NHS is today inviting all 44-year-olds in England to come forward for a vaccine. Around half a million of the age group will begin receiving a text inviting them to book a jab, with health service sources predicting that the 40- to 43-year-olds will get the call later this week.

Two thirds of people aged 45 to 49 have now been vaccinated. It coincides with the launch of a new government campaign urging younger people to take up the offer when their turn comes.

This will include the vaccine programme’s first use of TV advertising.

The “every vaccination gives us hope” campaign will also run across social media and on billboards.

Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, said: “The biggest vaccination programme in NHS history has delivered 45.5 million doses so far across the UK, and we are on track to offer a jab to all adults by the end of July. I encourage everyone who is 44 to book an appointment to get the jab.”

I think back to those scary, uncertain days in February and March last year where all eyes were in Italy - “in a few weeks this will be us”, and regrettably, it was.

But it does now genuinely feel like we are steadily on our way out of this, and it’s fantastic to have somewhere like Israel to look towards as a vision of what is to come.

They’ve been using tv advertising already havnt they? I get some actress popping up with a quick promo on the rare occasion I watch terrestrial tv....the radio adverts seemed to have changed again (Alexa is still getting abused)

The Premier League records zero Covid cases for the first time since weekly testing began. Yet another hallmark of declining infection levels in the UK as the vaccination count climbs, and arguably a case for vaccinated people beginning to protect unvaccinated people given the cohort.

Especially good news given that these people are among those who are doing the most intermingling of anyone right now (you can't social distance a corner routine).
