Numbers update.......infections and deaths showing notably low figures

Infections - 3,862, rolling 7 day down 1.7%
Deaths - 19, rolling 7 day (437), down 31.7%
Admissions - 343 (not updated), rolling 7 day down 20.8% (down 683)
Vaccs - 423k 1st and 234k 2nd, cumulative 30.1m and 3.5m
People in hospital - 4,560 (not updated)

NOT BAD NEWS, we should now expect some metrics to plateau off and rise as people start meeting up again (some within the eased rules, some not so, where people can’t simply hold out any more). Evidence of this already in Scotland.

Almost by design, it’s expected.

But THE key numbers on; deaths, hospital beds occupied and people on ventilators, should remain low.

Yep, although it’s not even ‘almost’ by design, it’s totally by design (and absolutely should be) - simple risk management, balance between opening up and keeping it under control. Good article today below (apologies if paywalled) on Denmark - who have been cautious to date but are now opening up quickly following vacc of the O50s where they explicitly talk about the expectation of increased infections

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...quick-unlocking-experts-say-risk-third-covid/

We’ve got the vulnerable pretty well protected even with one jab, so even if there is an increase in infections, the number of hospitalisations and deaths are very unlikely to increase at anything like the same rate. Unless we’re trying to get to ‘zero covid’ (unfeasible) then it’s all about management of the numbers.

It’s also really encouraging that we’ve seen no increase in infections following the return of schools (now 3 weeks ago)

All good news on the covid front.:) 30million vaccinated,:) deaths and infection rates all heading south.:) Lockdown easing tomorrow. :)
Golf and back for a few beers with mates in garden back on the agenda :).
Pubs open, albeit outside in a couple of weeks which will be helped by warming weather and lighter evenings.:)

Got a few mates coming round for a get-together in the garden tomorrow afternoon. Will be great to just sit around and chat face to face....and the weather looks ok. :)

I’m geared up for all the party politicised doomongers and stirring parts of the media (Sky News) portraying a rise in cases, but nothing else, as awful news.

Which I’ll dismiss. Instead listening to what JVT, Whitty and The Naked Scientist have to say.

It’s THE only way.

Decent number of fans at the Israel - Scotland game.

Slightly obscure for this thread perhaps, but a hint towards the coming normality.

More positive vaccine news......

A single dose of the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines was effective at stopping 62% of coronavirus infections in care homes, a study has found.
A team at University College London (UCL) looked at data from 10,000 adults in England with an average age of 86.
The research also suggested those who did catch the virus after vaccination may be less infectious.
"Our data suggests that both vaccines are effective in frail, older adults," said UCL's Dr Maddie Shrotri.
The study analysed coronavirus test-result data for 10,412 long-term residents, all aged over 65, at 310 care homes.

back on track...

Zoe app still showing no sign of an overall rise in symptomatic infection rates to March 25th (new daily cases at 4,446 now, down 200 from the day before and overall levels of infection still dopping, now at just under 70,000 nationally). So if there is any impact on children and parents from schools going back, it's being cancelled out by rediuctions elsewhere, presumably in over 50's. All good. Enjoy the sunshine - with just a bit of care, it's very very safe out there!

Sat in the garden, in the warm sun, chatting with 3 mates and eating fish and chips this afternoon. Felt almost......normal. Psychologically much more uplifting than I expected.

Nice....worked as normal today :moo:

However one customer said they were hoping to see family this weekend for the first time in ages and I was discussing a piece of work with someone early this evening when they mentioned they were off to football training asap ..told him to get off the phone pronto and go!

Seeing wife’s family tomorrow for the first time since Christmas.

Most importantly, our 3 year olds seeing them. He’s been asking when he can see Grandma and Grandpa for so long. Can’t wait to see his face light up when we see them.
