F1 Teams to help build ventilators

From the BBC news:

A collective of UK-based Formula 1 teams and engine manufacturers are working with the UK government and other organisations in an attempt to increase the supply of ventilators during the coronavirus crisis.

They are discussing how they can help produce or support production of medical equipment, with F1 saying they hope to reach "a tangible outcome in the next few days".

"All the teams have expert design, technology and production capabilities, and specialise in rapid prototyping and high value manufacturing, which is hoped can be applied to the critical needs set out by government," F1 said.

This is the good news thread.

You beat me to it.

'Deflationary spiral due to fall in oil prices', my arse. This country has had inflation my entire life. Low interest rates is brilliant.

In other news, I have detected a slight increase in the extent to which people are nice to one another, and a slight fall in willful cuntishness.

They have an immunity to facts unfortunately, so I doubt it.

That made me laugh out loud. :lolol:

Mrs T just reminded me that in Italy if you don't vaccinate your kid they aren't allowed into school. Some times, perhaps, having a national history of 'authoritarianism' (ahem) can be a good thing.

For me, there is no need to have radio five on constantly. There is no football news, and no point whatsoever in listening to the speculative uninformed twaddle of the parade of 'expert' talking heads wheeled into the studio, and very much good reason to not listen to the endless phone ins ("I have been told I should put a paper bag over my head. Will that help?"). I can catch up with a quick peek at the Beeb page later if I can be arsed. Instead, the house is a quiet hum of family noise, interspersed with frequent dips into the Faversham music lake. I think I've just caught myself a whoppa.....ah yes! Deeply georgeous vibes, no less. Here, from youtube, what my CD player is now playing. Enjoy.

No vapour trails. Less pollution. Fantastic impact, if only that would continue

Have there been any more 'positive' studies come out recently indicating the virus is potentially less serious than currently thought :fingerscrossed:

It’s remarkable....been in the job no time at all, relatively new to politics and must be stressed to hell, but difficult to see what he could have done better (accepting whatever he does people will flame him if they think differently). He doesn’t even need to be doing this, his wife’s family are absolutely loaded.

Coming from GS it was a given that he was exceptionally bright and driven, but v impressed so far.

It's a shame. Better for us all and for the planet to travel less

I think there will be a change.

There has always been a large amount of largely needless travel for work meetings, both nationally and internationally.

A by-product of what we’re going through now will hopefully be a culture that truly challenges whether travel is truly necessary on a case by case basis.

Absolutely convinced we’ll see this at work. Virtually everyone is working from home at the moment, so aren’t even in their usual offices, let alone overseas. The new Zoom VC package is outstanding and virtually everything we need to do is getting done anyway.........
