Without having read the entire 15 pages of this debate, may I add my biggest linguistic bugbear?

The increasing use of "regular" when the speaker (or writer) really means "frequent" - the worst example of which I heard on the TV a few years ago …

"A typical Rooney goal, he regularly scores goals like that!"

So, Rooney scores goals like that at 3.25 every Saturday?

That is surreal use of a colon.
