People never liked refs and will always be happy to see them quit.

Yet the thought of giving the rookie bloke from last week, Rob Jones, a lot more games really doesnt make me believe all will be fine and dandy as soon as the current household names are gone.

Martin Atkinson and Jon Moss also retiring this summer, EPL planning a tribute to the trio.

:nono:

Andre Marriner has been persuaded to do one more season.

Atkinson will be missed, and I'm glad Marriner is staying on. Just as with the C&US, he's pretty good. More of them and, as Swanny says, less of that preening prat we saw on Sunday.

It'll be nice seeing the back of Jon Moss.

Bloke is absolutely unfit to referee. Both physically and technically.

……and yet look at the position he is to take up :moo:

“Moss, 51, has been announced as the new manager of the select group one referees, who take charge of Premier League matches, while Atkinson, also 51, will be the coach for that group. These are two new jobs created by Riley and they give Atkinson and Moss the chance to prolong their stay at PGMOL.”

These appointments, and the retirements from on-field duties that come with them, are part of major changes to PGMOL and with it the coaching and development of referees. Riley told his referees by email that the appointments were “an exciting opportunity to shape the future development of the select group”.

Is 'select group' the new synonym for 'gravy train'?
