They wouldn’t, but I can remember my Dad saying the same thing, and him having been to football since the 40s.

Funny how it works. My dad was from Littlehampton and his dad used to put him on the train to watch Pompey some weeks and Brighton others. At no point did this seem to matter to dad and he never once thought of the club's being rivals. He started watching in the late 40's. He has seen hundreds more Brighton games over the years but loves both clubs much to the dismay and chagrin of me and my brother.

The worst violence I’ve witnessed was against Portsmouth rather than Palace back in the day. Others will have there own experiences of course.
