To paraphrase Ricky Gervais, the Catholic church's attitude to reacharounds, felching, ski-jumping, Belgian Biscuits, wanking off men behind the bicycle sheds, having a bloke shitting on a glass table whilst having a couple of other blokes watch it from below etc is YES

Marriage is NO

Clears that up then.

To add to the list- abortion after incestual rape of a 10 year old is also NO.

The hypocracy of many of those (in the public eye at least) in the anti camp is incredible.

Peter Bone MP
If marriage is redefined, schools will have no choice but to give children equivalent teaching on same-sex marriage, even those children of a very young age, including those at primary school...

So what will happen to parents who because of religious, or philosophical beliefs take their children out of lessons?

Parents who object will be treated as bigots and outcasts, possibly excluded from being on the PTA [Parent Teacher Association], or from being a governor.

Discriminated against and persecuted because they hold views that have been enshrined in our laws and have been the cornerstone of our society for 2,000 years.

So it's not okay for parents to be potentially discriminated against (of course it's completely hypothetical) but it's fine for the LGBT community to be discriminated against by not allowing them to get married?

Cardinal Keith O’Brien
No Government has the moral authority to dismantle the universally understood meaning of marriage.

But apparently the Church has the authority to ensure that it is never changed (unless the Church says so)? Marriage did not start, and should not end, as the preserve of religion. It certainly pre-dates Christianity.

Dropped on your head as a child?

You chose to mock a far more serious issue in mental health within society so you can have some cheap shot with f*** all relevance to the topic.

Bright spark you are.

Ooooooh! Touched a nerve haven't I.

I haven't mocked anything other than your wish to deflect a discussion on an important issue that reflects badly on your religion to another important issue that has nothing to do with your religion. If you want to talk about important issues then is there anything more important than child abuse or the spread of AIDS?

You've actually lost it a bit haven't you?

It's not just Catholics who are against gay marriage. The Bible condemns it as do many other religions. People will cry "Homophobia" but it is certainly not. It is a point of view held by many. I do not agree with Same sex marriage, so if anyone thinks this makes me Homophobic, I would like to hear why it makes me so.

I think I'd like to hear why you're against same-sex marriages before I comment.

Just to say you're against it has little value.

Given the fact that the one issue that does not touch the human race is a worrying lack of procreation, what harm is there in same sex marriages?

I was getting worried about that myself. I just cannot understand why there are so many people on here getting upset that the Church is against creating a family unit based upon a single sex.
It's the arrogance that the church speaks like it owns the insitution of marriage and uses inflammatory language to make its point that "upsets" some of us, as opposed to having an opposing point of view.

Reading an earlier view on Gay marriage being taught in schools, this I totally disagree with. Why should this have to be discussed in the class room? Gay or straight marriages should be a subject discussed within the family, between the two people concerned or with a trusted friend. It seems far too common these days that schools are expected to educate children in matters that should be the responsibility of parents or guardians.

It is certainly not homophobia. It is a point of view. Playing the homophobia card gives the impression that because those who wish to use it as a defence, have no other way of justifying the use of the homophobia label.

but surely you see that, by definition, it is discriminatory? right? of course it's a point of view. a homophobic one.

How precisely is object to gay marriage NOT homophobia ? You are preventing people that are gay from partaking in an event that you ( assuming you're not gay ) or I CAN do. YOU are discriminating against someone due to their sexuality - THAT really IS homophobia.

It matters not whether you agree with it or not, it's none of your business. You are entitled to a view on the topic but you should not be entitled to impose that opinion on others.

Technically it is discriminatory I agree, but there are so many other situation in life that can be construed as such. Single faith schools, single sex hospital wards, single sex sporting events, single sex changing rooms ... this list is endless. If the Catholic Church is democratically against gay/lesbian marriages then the view of that or any other religion should be respected. May be a good compromise would be for the Amex to host such events.
