If or when Greer gets back in, do you think he should get the armband back.
I think it should stay with Calde now. Done a cracking job.

Calderon is a great captain but if Greer has been made captain then surely he would get it back.

Greer seems more leadership material plus I'm guessing Calderon's English isn't perfect yet.... communication an important attribute.

I think the captain's role is massively overstated in football.

Cricket, it's hugely influential, as the skipper often picks the team and makes the on field decisions. Rugby, perhaps, as he's the one who's permitted to speak to the officials on the pitch. But football? Nah.

There are always players in a team who are the louder types who drive the others on, and some who are much quieter, but effective in their own way. The louder ones will shout and chide the rest regardless of who is the captain, and the quiet ones will do their thing likewise.

English football places far too much emphasis on it IMHO. So long as you have a few inspirational characters in your team then the whole armband thing shouldn't matter.

I agree with this, Calderon is a leader, whether he's captain or not I don't think it really matters. Greer's been made club captain, and when he comes back, there's no real reason why he shouldn't get the armband back.

Plus I think the whole idea of there being a club captain and a team captain is stupid.

Plus there's no way you can judge Calderon as a captain either way, good or bad.

Just because the team has played well recently doesn't mean it's anything to do with who tosses the coin at half time. Perhaps they're just...good?

I agree that the armband thing is overstated. Calderon, Greer, Elphick, Kish all seem like leaders on the pitch. The whole squad appears to be a really tight unit at the moment. What a difference a year makes, get rid of the pissheads, shit stirers and backstabbers and look at us know.

You see, sometimes NSC does know what it's talking about, this time last year loads of people on here were bemoaning the fact that the team didn't have a single leader and hadn't had one since Butters left, now we have them all over the pitch.

I know some people are disappointed that Calde "hasn't been as good as last year" but having watched him captain the side for 5 of our games so far he has, in my opinion, been outstanding and possibly our most consistently influential performer in terms of pushing the team forward both by example and vocal/physical encouragement - one of the signings of the decade in my view

I think Calderon has been doing a quietly effective job this time around. After the first few games I felt disappointed at his performances compared to last season...but having seen him since I've realised he's been very consistent and understated, and is perhaps aware of the need to rein in his attacking instincts due to his responsibilities to the side.

Plus we have Lua Lua and Bennett to zip up the wing...and besides, Calderon was backing them right up yesterday. He was more pumped up at that win than almost any of them, he was going nuts at the final whistle, and I love him even more for that

should've seen him at Plymouth - had a shot deflected right at the end that he was certain was goalbound....the look of disappointment and then the sheer joy when the final whistle blew - a delight to watch. I just love his enthusiasm and his committment to the team

maybe it could be said that last year when he came in we were so piss poor he looked so much better than most of the team, but now that we look better in every position he doesn't stand out so much.

I noticed Calderon really defending his players yesterday. A couple of times he acted as a mature voice, keeping players away from the ref, calming people down and rallying the troops.

This won't stop if Greer takes over as Captain. He's a team player an a sure-fire legend.

i think Greer should get it back when he comes back, because he is a more natrual leader and his english is fluent and he can give advice more quickly and clearly =)

I couldnt disagree more its vital in my opinion, even playing football at park level like i do. Having the right or wrong captain as it maybe makes in my mind a huge difference.

Someone who knows what the manager wants and is able to convey that to his team in words or in action is sometimes the difference between winning and losing games
