I don't buy that argument, I had the misfortune of growing up in HH, and this was way before the bars opened up on the broadway- the pubs were shite then too...

admittedly, Lindfield was the place to go, but even the pubs there are crap now (I should know, I live there)

I must bow then to your superior local knowledge.

HH is a funny place, a lot of people think its quite affluent, but many parts of it are quite clearly crap.

Nice quick commute into London for work though.

In what way is Burgess hill better than HH? There is F*** all in Burgess hill.....no restaurants, no decent boozers, no shops.........plus it's full of chavs

The same can be said of Haywards Heath, however at least Burgess Hill has a centre whilst HH just sprawls over the place. It has nothing to recommend it apart from that fact more trains stop there.

What a f***ing shit hole!

Made the mistake of popping in for a quick pint on Saturday evening en route to a party. Within seconds of getting to the bar a woman in our group was offered outside by (I think) another female, and the barmaid had the cheek to ID my other half when she looked about 12 herself.

The rest of the clientel looked like they'd wandered off the set of Jeremy Kyle, and the picture was complete when a family of knuckle draggers clad in Millwall regalia ambled in.

Drinks necked and escape made. A wholly unpleasant experience.

I was in the Burrell on Saturday evening :drink:

The Burrell's been an unfriendly shithole for at least thirty years. About the only thing it had going for it in the Eighties was it open Tuesday afternoons for an alleged 'Market Day' in the age when pubs shut in the afternoons by law. Went in there a couple a montrhs back when the trains screwed up and it was as full of furrow-browed scowling inbreds as it was back then. Same slashed seats with the foam rubber hanging out it looked like too. Disgusting place.

nowhere near Burgess Hill
I live in the Heath and whilst it's not a great place to drink, it is miles better than BH. It's crying out for a big pub to replace The Sussex and cater for the less desirables who have drifted to the Broadway ever since. Burrell is and always will be a hole, very sad days when the Livvy Arms closed down and the Sarge changed to a food pub.

Lindfield not as good as it used to be either, hardly ever see the Red Lion or Standup (Linden Tree) mobbed like they always used to be.

The Burrell boys in the 70's and 80's (when i knew them) were loyal Albion fans and good mates to have backing you up at an away game so I would never knock the Burrell.

My friends often went there and seemed to like it so can't be too bad.

:smokin:.

Haven't been in there for ages mind. The one rule you have to follow, if going to the Burrell is,you have to take a pint on the train, for the 17 minute journey back. :drink:

I've got into some pickles in that pub - 'Safe.' will vouch for that.

Always thought it was alright in there, only time I thought it was ever gonna go off is when Haye fort Valuev, was all sorts off differents groups in there.

Out of interest, what do you consider the decent boozers in Burgess Hill then?

the potters is decent since its refit a few years back. railway is good for grub and live music, the windmill and kings head are decent for beer gardens and, although more of a bar, mooch does one of the best burgers in the world
