What a f***ing shit hole!

Made the mistake of popping in for a quick pint on Saturday evening en route to a party. Within seconds of getting to the bar a woman in our group was offered outside by (I think) another female, and the barmaid had the cheek to ID my other half when she looked about 12 herself.

The rest of the clientel looked like they'd wandered off the set of Jeremy Kyle, and the picture was complete when a family of knuckle draggers clad in Millwall regalia ambled in.

Drinks necked and escape made. A wholly unpleasant experience.

its ok to pop into during the day, if you avoid the uncooked gammon, but at night it becomes an absolute dive

i think its just one of those places that is a beacon for tossers

You haven't lived until you've been to the Lord Clarke in Bradford. :lolol:

a good point well made - any pub that sells out of beer by 2pm on a friday is a place that should be well avoided

not to mention the boarded up windows - one of which still contains the remnants of a CHAIR in it

I think it is, for Sussex. I admit I've been to far worse in Sheffield, Nottingham and Burnley.
It may have some of the more ' rough and ready ' elements of society in there , but i would class a rough pub on a sliding scale of likelihood of personal attack, and the burell rates pretty low on this , its a station pub , there is far too much passing trade for the 'bar goes quiet and everyone eyeballs you type scenario '.

why are all the pubs in the heath so shit? The star is probably the best of a very bad bunch.

I've NEVER shotgunned a pint so fast in my life, I even left my flies open coming out of the bog to save time for the escape!

I think it's a mid-Sussex small town thing. Uckfield's the same.

burgess hill has a few decent boozers, and if you count hassocks as a town then the hassocks hotel isnt too shaby

haywards heath is a shithole for pubs though

My uncle used to be the landlord, this was about 12-15 years ago. He never said it was particulary rough but definitely a hotspot for head mentals - including one bloke who used to come in and bring his own sandwiches and bottle of water which he'd ask my uncle to fill up every so often (until the day he put chilli powder in it) and this black dude who'd wander in, go straight into a toilet cubicle and kick the door while screaming "f*** you shoes! f*** you Maggie Thatcher!"

It's called the Haywards Heath Effect, dull and pointless place to everybody apart from those who live there.
