I have children and grandchildren. I am interested in how things will work out for my grandchildren as a result of how I might vote. I considered all the options, carefully and diligently. I fully understood the importance of the issues, and weighted up the pros and cons. As a result of which, with a clear conscience, I voted leave.

And fair enough. At least you took it seriously. Plenty of people didn't, on both sides.

I suspect any polls would return a mixed view on this..... most people, in my opinion, would not be bothered either way.

Personally I couldn't care less what colour the cover of a travel document is. I do care that it is likely to cost the best part of £500 million to commit to changing the colour of it when this is money that could be put to good use in so many other areas.

No doubt all those wanting the blue one back, want to be changed in £sd for the privilege

And probably won't use it either as that would involve going someplace where there is loads of those Johnny Foreigners, and they can't get a Sunday roast, or a full english.

Good service on passports at the moment-mine took just over a week.Still got EU on the cover, but gives us something to laugh at for the next 2 years.See some of the usual suspects have been whining about the £500 million estimated costs. This is for design and production of the new passport, with security upgrades, until 2030 and includes redesign work,so there are no Brexit costs. As for wanting the blue passport back and not using it,what a load of crap. You lot are all mouth, threatening to go,but you haven't got the bottle, and just stay here sniping.

Really pathetic argument over this. Could give a toss what colour it is, the fact is the passport will be seriously diminished in rights of travel, work and study after Brexit thanks is a parochial bunch of Brexiteers

Besides, might be best to see what's left of the UK before we make any changes

I'd be grateful if you'd let me have a list of the people who have threatened to go, or at least an estimate of the number. On the other hand if the above is just an example of one of those nonsense 'facts' that Leavers like to dream up, you're excused.

There's nothing in the rules that requires EU passports to be burgundy coloured. Croatian passports are EU passports, but are dark blue in colour.

Oh no, this is serious. Are you saying that maroon passports aren't part of a Junker-led plot to upset the doughty English after all?

Like I said earlier, my wife studied In France for her degree. She was living with an American and Australian at the time, they managed to get there. We need to stop creating this image that Europe is no longer going to allow Brits over after Brexit. My wife also voted leave by the way.

Even more now May has said she does not really know when she will end freedom of movement :)

£500 million..... Christ....

Still not a waste of money at all.....

500m. Absolute helmets.

This was my thought. I didn't understand how it could cost so much. Of course it turns out to be one of those meaningless headline figures.

From the comments in the Telegraph article:

A/ Unrelated to Brexit. 10 year passport contract was up for renewal in 2019 anyway (De La Rue, the folks who make banknotes make them)

B / Essentially zero £ cost to government. Not taxpayers money. Paid for when you buy/renew a passport

C/ This cost can't be "spent on something else" because of (b). Unless we get rid of passports

D/ Blue colour not confirmed, nor is the overall design - that will probably happen in 2018. Could be blue, might not be

E/ The £500m cost is over ten years and covers not just a redesign, but printing 60 million passports over that ten years

F/ The government redesigns passports every 5 years for security reasons. Last ones were done in 2010 and 2015. Hence, 2019-2020 for next one.

The overall cost is about £7-£8 per passport.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of our current passport and I'd quite like a blue one.

It will end eventually. We need a system fit for the future and treats everyone the same. Free movement has been abused. It's a stupid idea.

If you can be arsed to trawl back through the Brexit threads to find all the 'flakes on here who were thanking their deity for dual nationality and would go here there and everywhere, then please do.If you can't remember all the angst and anger, then your brain is even mushier than I thought it was! Most nonsense facts appear to be copyrighted by Momentum, but if,in your fragile state, you've forgotten that, you're excused.

Surely this is black? Or is it a trick of the light?
It's weird, coincidentally I had my old black passport out just before this thread to show a foreigner what our passports used to look like. I don't understand the reference to blue
