A group of local residents have come together to reopen the Bevendean pub on Hillside in Moulsecoomb.

The Bevendean Community Pub Limited, governed by the Financial Services Act, will be issuing the £10 shares on Saturday 1st December 6.00pm at St Andrews Church.

There will also be a fundraising gig from 7.30 to 10.30pm with mulled wine and nibbles, including Langham Brewery's Hip Hop real ale.

They are hoping to raise up to £200,000 and to get as many people involved as possible.

They aim to turn The Bevendean into the first co-op pub and café on a housing estate in the UK, offering not just a place for people to go, but somewhere they can all be proud of, while offering jobs and training opportunities for local people.

With a population of 18,000 the Moulsecoomb, Bevendean and Bates estates in East Brighton have been without a pub since the ‘The Bevendean’ closed in May 2010.

The Bevy will be a community hub, introducing good freshly cooked food to serve alongside the real ales at prices people can afford. A dedicated meeting room for local societies, a community kitchen and an edible pub garden. A village hall with a difference in an area that is in desperate need of somewhere for people to meet!

Come along and tell your friends, if you can't come, you can buy shares online at Road to the Bevy

It'll be geographically the nearest pub to me, although not a direct route.

Well worth supporting and I'll certainly have a £10.00 share.

A friend of mine who is involved in the Bevy has asked me to post this to remind people that the launch is tomorrow. If you're watching the game on video at the stadium then why not come to the Bevy after and see what it's all about.

Come along to the Bevendean Pub co-op launch this Saturday 1st December 6pm at St.Andrews Church, Hillside, Moulsecoomb.
Watch our film. Find out how and why to buy shares in the first co-op pub on a housing estate in the UK.
Buffet, mulled wine, mince pies available.
Followed by benefit gig at St.Andrews Hall from 7.30 with music and a Bevendean pop up pub with guest real ales.

I believe the share-issue target is for a quarter of the total needed, which will then be opened up for local business/corporate input...

Now I know of a local philanthropist who owns a fair-sized footy club/stadium

Looks like they have done it.

The country's first community owned pub on a council estate is set to open its doors after a £130,000 funding boost.

The Bevendean in Moulsecoomb, Brighton, was closed by police following a string of violent incidents in 2010.

But, after a two-year campaign to reopen the once-troubled boozer in Hillside as a place for the whole community, those behind it have revealed it has received a six-figure boost from Social Investment Business.

Together with more than £44,000 raised from selling shares to more than 500 people, work can now start on the revamp of the Bevy with the aim of opening in the next few months.
