Dad's Army and It Ain't Half Hot Mum are accepted as Sit-coms, so surely Blackadder Goes Forth should be too, all set in wartime "situations " after all ? however, Dad's Army and It Ain't half Hot Mum never had the political undertones that Blackadder Goes Forth had. Maybe that's it, a comedy without a socio-political point versus a comedy that is non political without an axe to grind is the difference.

Only Blackadder Goes Forth, or all of it ? Can’t take a single series.....

I remember the scene at the supermarket in Germany with Neville trying to divide up the tasks of who should buy what from the shopping list.... " Look, me an' Bomber will get the beer and the bog rolls, you's can fight over the rest " !

Great episode but the supermarket was over here
It was in the second series when they were working on the Manor House but had been chucked out the B and B

Which subsequently led to them watching the porno videos and they found the landlord had one of the parties

Great call on Arrested Development. Didn’t know it when it was on network tv but watched it when Netflix gave it an extra season. Unique, excellent show!

3rded - this is my favourite show ever.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is another good Netflix sitcom, but perhaps a bit too whimsical for most on here.

The Phil Silvers Show (aka Bilko))
MASH
Dad's Army
Only Fools and Horses
Yes Minister/Prime Minister

Loved Bilko .... I was watching it 20 years after it was made, but still brilliant.

Another one we loved as a family was Hogan’s Heroes.

Just one, now irritating, aspect to those old sitcoms when watching now can be domineering canned laughter.

Difficult to accurately theorise but, the first three series of Blackadder lacked a political/social commentary thread I thought ?

Funnily, I genuinely associate Phil Silvers with the genius of the Marx Brothers (having always noticed your avatar). To a lesser extent, but also Abbott and Costello.

Probably because I grew up in the 70’s watching all their repeats, with a Dad who loved old US stuff.

The Marx Brothers are for me almost a passion. I think I can talk word for word through Duck Soup...... I like anyone who pricks the balloon of pomposity

My dad was a bit like Phil Silvers. Always had an angle

Night At The Opera too, they remind of Christmas daytime TV in the 70’s. Classics.
